Five time GWN7 WA Modified Sedan Series champion Aydan Trewern bounced back to form yesterday afternoon at the Katanning Speedway during the final round of the 2017/2018 series with a dominate victory in the twenty lap main event.

Trewern lead the race from start to finish with the Albany based driver leading home Branden Fraser and Ray Clifton, with third place in the final race of the series enough to give Clifton the 2017/2018 GWN7 WA Modified Sedan Series Title.

Warm sunny conditions greeted competitors with the Katanning Speedway turning on a great racing surface for the conclusion to the 2017/2018 GWN7 WA Modified Sedan Series.

Newly crowned Western Australian Modified Sedan champion Anthony King dominated the opening heat of the day with Aydan Trewern coming from position eight to finish fourth.

Trewern then dominated heat two leading home Ray Clifton and King who charged through the field.

Bill Penn lead the final heat of the day from start to finish with the win giving Penn a three point lead in the series standings heading into the main event. Rick Musarra and Trewern had a great tussle for the duration of heat three for second place with Musarra just getting the edge over Trewern on the final lap.

Trewern narrowly defeated King in the Totally Independent Tyre Service Shootout with the local crowd enjoying the side by side action during the knockout phase of the race meeting.

In the main event Trewern would get the jump over King with Bill Penn and Branden Fraser working their way past King on the opening lap.

Clifton settled into fifth place and begun to loose touch to the top four before King slowed on lap four with steering damage to his Ford Falcon which brought about the first and only stoppage of the race.
Trewern lead away at the restart with Penn holding off the advances of Fraser for second place with Clifton and Musarra beginning to battle over fourth.

Misfortune struck Bill Penn on lap eight with suspension damage to his Ford Falcon ending his race and also costing him any hope of winning the 2017/2018 GWN7 WA Modified Sedan Series Title.

The longer the race went on the further in front Trewern got with the former state champion going on to win the final race of the summer season for Modified Sedans by over half a lap from Fraser and Clifton.

Third place in the feature race gave the 2017/2018 GWN7 WA Modified Sedan Series title to Clifton by just twelve points over Bill Penn.

Branden Fraser also scored enough points during the final round to wrap up third place in the series narrowly over Trewern and King.

Ray Clifton was elated to win the GWN7 WA Modified Sedan Series in his first attempt at the entire schedule with the Broome based driver making a big commitment to the division in recent times. Absolutely stoked to win the series title, a big thanks to everyone involved in organising the series this year and thanks to all my supporters back in Broome who have never stopped believing in me, said Clifton.

The Western Australian Modified Sedan Drivers Association would like to thank Moyle Race Parts for sponsoring the final round of the series and also the Katanning Speedway for hosting a great event.

Attention now turns to the WAMDA awards night to be held on Saturday 11th August at the Rose Hotel in Bunbury.
