Finally, something has felt like normal.
Just like the 2019/2020 Ivix Industries South West Sedan Championship round at this venue, Michael Hamon and Kyle Sayer took the spoils during the opening round at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway.
This time, they were joined by a different Junior Sedan driver.
Bunbury’s Brandon Buszan had the upper hand all night long at Collie, the same venue where he led the majority of the SSA National Title in January earlier this year.
He was able to bounce back in a huge way as well, dominating the entirety of the feature race to take the victory in record time over Riley Hanson and Seth Hinsey.
Last year’s Grand Champion Matthew Thomson had an event he would rather forget, finishing well down the order after contact racing for third.
Everything else from the night felt the same as last year all be it with a different twist.
Kyle Sayer was the strong man in the Production Sedans. Dealing with an early race battle with Barry Rose he was able to sail to a convincing victory.
Rose, unlike last season, had to settle for third place as local Rickie Nuccini got through for second place in the middle stages of the event, making the most of a rare mistake from the Sigma.
In the case of the Street Stocks, Michael Hamon had a little bit easier this season, leading from pole in the A-Main and leading the entire distance.
Last year’s heartbreak story Ethan Genev had another heart in your mouth moment at half race distance, riding on two wheels while trying to find a way past Paul Briggs as the pair of locals fought it out for the last two spots on the podium, with Briggs edging out Genev.
In the scheme of the Grand Champion, it’s Michael Hamon who will lead the points score going into round two of the Ivix Industries South West Sedan Championship at the Tyrepower Manjimup Speedway on November 28th 2020.
