Dusty Higgs has taken out an enthralling season opener in Round One of the SSWA Summer Series at the Mount Barker Speedway Club.

Drivers faced three heats each before a twenty lap main event.

Ajay Hammer took out the opening heat of the day after Higgs was deemed to have made a pass on the infield.

Local hope Rob Knox was victorious in the second heat of the day.

Higgs would get his first win of the day in heat three, and Hammer would go two for two after storming from fourth on the grid to win heat four.

Higgs took out his second heat of the day with a dominant half a lap win in heat five. Dustin Higgs had a great battle with Knox in the final heat of the day and would take out heat six.

Knox and Higgs would start the feature race from the front row, with Dustin Higgs and Hammer on row two.

Higgs won the start from the top of the track and would lead the opening lap. Hammer got the best of Dustin Higgs at the start, and would settle into third, with Higgs right on her tail in fourth.

Knox battled back and would take the lead into turn one on lap two. Knox ran wide out of turn four allowing Higgs to sneak back into the lead at the end of lap two.

Knox looked to have the lead heading into lap three, but the yellow lights came on for a stricken Jerome Wade, relegating Knox back to second, and Higgs regaining the lead.

Higgs was able to break away from the field at the resumption getting out to a five car length lead, but the battle for minor placings waged on.

Knox was holding down second, but was under immense pressure from Hammer in third, and Dustin Higgs in fourth.

Higgs was able sneak by Hammer for third heading into turn one.

Hammer kept the pressure up down the back straight, and looked to immediately get the spot back, but entered turn three too hot, which would send Higgs spinning to the infield, and Hammer to the rear of the field for the restart.

Higgs was again able to sneak away from the field in the final dash to the flag to take the opening round victory. Knox would hold off Dustin Higgs to take out second, with Higgs taking the final step on the podium crossing the line third.

Nathan Thiele would get the best of a race long battle with Kemble Aylett to take out fourth, with Aylett rounding out the top five.

Hammer stormed back through the field to finish sixth. Ryan Huxtable was the final finisher on the lead lap in seventh.

Steve Larson, Warren Hambley and Lukas Lampert would round out the finishers, in eighth, ninth and tenth.
