Grant Hopkins has triumphed in round six of the Tazz Auto Shots Tasmanian Super Sedan Series brought to you by Document Management Tasmania at the Autoklene Hobart Raceway.
Kym Jury opened the nights action with a narrow win in the opening heat of the night. Leon Cleary crossed the line second, ahead of Hopkins in third.
Lee Aylett got his night underway with a win in heat two, leading home Wayne Dillon in second, and Steve Latham in third.
Laura Davidson made good use of her Tazz Auto Shots Joker Card with a win in the third heat of the night. Dillon crossed the line second again from Dwaine Sonners in third.
Hopkins surged through the field after starting sixth to win the final heat of the night. Cleary crossed the line second, ahead of Brad McMaster in third.
Hopkins secured pole position for the thirty lap main event. Dillon joined him on the front row, with Cleary and Davidson set to start from row two.
Hopkins jumped to the lead from the outset, with Dillon in second, from Cleary in third, Davidson in fourth, and Aylett in fifth.
The opening caution of the race was out on lap five after Davidson spun, sending her to the rear for the restart.
The caution light was out again two laps later after Luke Gunn spun in turn one, who would also go to the rear for the restart.
Davidsons race ended there, as she made her way to the infield before the lights went green again.
Cleary took second at the restart, powering around the outside of Dillon on the deleware double file restart.
Aylett inherited fourth after Davidson’s spin, and Jury entered the top five with twenty three laps remaining.
Hopkins looked strong out front, stretching his legs to put five car lengths between himself and the chasing pack.
Nathan Howells worked his way forward to sixth at the half way mark of the race after starting way back in fifteenth.
Hopkins continued to hold the five car length lead until he hit traffic and really flexed his muscle to extend his lead out to almost three seconds in the closing stages of the race.
As the laps dwindled down Hopkins found himself in heavy lap traffic as the lap cars ran two and three wide in front of the leader.
Cleary reeled Hopkins in to be right on his tail as the white flag came out.
Hopkins held on to claim victory for the first Super Sedan win of his career, crossing the line just 0.231 seconds clear of Cleary in second, who also claimed the fastest lap in the feature race.
Dillon rounded out an all Sweet Chassis podium in third, ahead of Aylett in fourth, and Jury in fifth.
Howells crossed the line sixth, ahead of Gunn in seventh who rebounded from being sent rear earlier in the race.
Marcus Alexander crossed the line eighth, from Josh Tinning in ninth, and Dwaine Sonners who rounded out the top ten.
The Tazz Auto Shots Tasmanian Super Sedan Series will return this weekend with round seven at Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway.
