Official Release by Broth Enterprises.

In a race that had plenty of moments, Matt Hammond stood strong to win the Street Stock Coal Miner at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway.

Hammond in a race that had many of comers and goers in its 52-lap event defeated David Padmore and Cody Avins.

It might have been Hammond who grabbed the lead as the field went to green, but Blake Iwanow got the upper hand as he and Avins started the marathon fast.

With four completed Avins bad luck continued in the Coal Miner, this time it was a flat tyre while he challenged for the lead.

Another restart after six laps was completed when Jamie Goodwin spun on turn three. This was bad news for Hammond as he missed the start and allowed Matt Iwanow, Lenny Bates and Ethan Genev able to get by.

The pitstop came in earlier than anyone could imagine with a lap 20 restart throwing everyone out of sequence.

This came after Peter Dowie and Ethan Cooper slowed on track bringing on the fourth yellow out.

After the fuel stop, Bates was on the charge getting ahead of Iwanow but it only lasted three-quarters of a lap until contact between the two saw Bates spinning and being collected by Damon Thomson.

Bates, Thomson and Linda Yates were sidelined and Matt Iwanow was sent to the tail of the field with 32 still remaining.

Hammond was the big winner when we went back to green as he hit the front over Blake Iwanow over 0.006 at the line the yellows came after the lap was completed when Daniel Flavel and Wayne Thomson come to a stop. The drama did not stop there as Blake Iwanow went to the infield and after looking strong was out of the Coal Miner.

All of a sudden Avins and Matt Iwanow found themselves battling David Padmore for the podium but it all come unstuck when Iwanow joined his brother on the infield with a flat right-front tyre.

From here on in it finally calmed down for Hammond as he stretched his lead over Padmore and Avins until nine laps to go when a lapped car played havoc with Hammond. But even after the contact he cruised to victory.

This was Hammond’s first victory under the Broth Enterprise banner, becoming the sixth different winner of a Month of Madness/North/South Shootout A-Main and the 32 overall in all series.

The next round of the ODH Mechanical North/South Shootout will be held at the Moora Speedway as part of the SSA Street Stock WA Title in April
