The Carnarvon Speedway club located nine hundred kilometres directly north of Perth in Western Australia are counting down the days until their 2020 season resumes in just under a fortnight’s time.

Carnarvon Speedway was actually the last venue in Australia to conduct a race meeting back on the 21st March as they compiled with the 500 limit on gatherings at the time.

In the days that followed all gatherings of more than ten people were deemed non essential as the COVID-19 crisis engulfed the world. The Western Australian State Government divided the state into nine regions on the 31st March effectively cutting off Carnarvon’s 4,400 residents from the rest of the world.

As restrictions have began to ease in Western Australia as life starts to resemble some form of normality, the two Speedway Clubs situated in the Gascoyne region of the state have made plans to restart their seasons.

The Independent Fuel Solutions Carnarvon Speedway will roar back into life on Saturday 20th June 2020 as the club hosts its annual SSA Production Sedan 20/20 Challenge.

Newly appointed Twenty Five year old Club President Jace Kempton who himself is a very prominent SSA Street Stock competitor is eagerly preparing for the season to resume.

“We just want to go racing, its been such a frustrating time but I guess everyone is in the same boat. The club has been putting in a lot work the last few years improving the venue as much as we can so we were ready for a big season until the whole world changed virtually overnight. There were a lot of competitors from around the state who were looking forward to coming here for our annual North West Championships which were scheduled for last weekend, so to not have it this year is a real kick in the guts to be honest” said Kempton.

Kempton went on to say that the club are committed to completing the three remaining race meetings on the 2020 season calendar which will start with the 20/20 for SSA Production Sedans followed by a club meeting in late July and the Laurie Ladhams Memorial in August for SSA Street Stocks.

“Many of our competitors are heading down to Shark Bay next Saturday for their season opener, then their competitors will come here for a couple of our shows so we hope to get plenty of laps in with good fields over the next few months” Kempton concluded.

We will continue to bring you stories of Speedway Sedans Australia categories returning to racing at venues across the country in the months ahead as the sport plays its part on the road to recovery.
