Wilson Wins at Redline!

Saturday night saw Redline Raceway roar back into life with the fifth round of the VMPA Australian Racing Products Series, with Darcy Wilson crossing the line in first place in the main event defeating Jarod Waters and Darren Cockerill.

The thirty lap feature saw Dylan Barrow choosing the outside as the high points man, leaving Kye Walters to start on the inside of him.

As the race went green Walters used the inside line to get by Barrow, with Darcy Wilson and Jarod Waters locked in right behind them.

Walters planted his machine right in the middle of the track with Barrow doing all he could to get by, running a slightly lower line and maintaining pace but unable to get by.

Lap seven saw Barrow pull a slidejob through turns one and two to momentarily take the lead, before Walters shot straight back by to maintain the point.

Barrow didn’t give up, trying multiple times to get back by on the low line but unsuccessful in his attempts until lap eleven when he drew alongside Walters and took the lead. As this was happening the lead cars found themselves in lapped traffic and this would prove to be their undoing, Barrow riding a wheel and launching into the air while Walters got caught up with the wall, both drivers race over.

This would elevate Wilson to the lead on the restart, with Darren Cockerill charging through to be second ahead of Waters.

Brody Chrystie also got involved on the choose cone restart, working his way past Waters, but it would only last one lap, Waters getting past Chrystie and Cockerill the same lap to climb back into second.

Wade McCarthy was next to arrive on the scene, getting by Chrystie then waging battle with Cockerill for third, the duo swapping position no less than six times through the last half of the race.

Up front Wilson was having his lead slowly chopped away by Waters, and with five to go the duo were side by side, Wilson barely maintaining his lead.

With just two to go Waters was able to dive underneath Wilson to take the lead, but Wilson fought back on the outside, then used a lapped car to his advantage to race back by Waters, taking the win by just half a second, while Darren Cockerill took back third place.

On the same program Stephen Laidlaw won the Production Sedan Southern Series round, defeating Mark Purdie and Michael Sayers.
