Craig Williams won his first SSA Modified Sedan Tasmanian Title in the 1992/93 season, and last night at the AutoKlene Hobart Raceway some thirty-three years later, he would claim his eighth!
Williams would start on the outside of the front row with Darcy Wilson starting from pole position for the thirty-lap feature event.
Wilson would get the best of the dispatch, with Williams in hot pursuit while Josh Marston raced into third.
The field quickly spread out and Wilson would hold strong in front for the bulk of the race. When lapped traffic came into play Wilson would get slightly caught and this gave Williams the chance to close the gap, locking onto the back of Wilson.
With two lapped cars right in the field of play, Wilson would barely hold off Williams, the duo finally getting by with fifteen laps remaining.
The man known as Smiley would continue to apply the pressure to Darcy, showing the nose a number of times but each time Wilson would close the gap, still running side by side with ten to go.
With six remaining lapped traffic again came into play, the lead duo looking to lap the fourth placed car. Wilson went around the outside to get by as Williams got stuck, the gap at the biggest point it had been for the race with four to go.
Just as Wilson crossed the line with three to go, his machine suddenly emitted the death rattle and began to slow significantly, with Williams able to race on by to take the lead.
Wilson held on for second until the white flag when Marston caught and passed him, but in the end it was all Williams, claiming his eighth SSA Modified Sedan Tasmanian Title in a great drive.
