Matt Williams has claimed $6000 in the opening round of the 2024/25 National Super Sedan Series during the second night of the Firecracker 50 at Autobarn Carina International Speedway in Bundaberg.

Williams claimed a second and a fourth in his two heat races to qualify for the top ten shootout. He set the tone in that to go QuickTime and secure pole position for the thirty lap main event.

Williams was joined on the front row by Joel Berkley for the feature race, with Sam Hughes and Zac Brims slated to start from row two.

Williams got the best of the initial start before contact in the middle of the pack saw the end of Brims and Justin Randall’s races before a lap was complete.

Williams and Berkley got an even start second time around, before Williams went deep on the brakes into turn one to take the lead.

Williams led the opening stanza from Berkley, Hughes, Brad Pascoe, and Michael Hally.

Williams stretched his legs out front putting half a straight away between himself and the chasing pack.

Williams continued to build his lead as he raced towards lap traffic and the halfway mark of the race.

Berkley found his footing and had bridged the gap to just a few car lengths as the yellow flag flew with twelve laps to run.

Williams led at the restart from Berkley, Hughes, Hally, and Pascoe.

Pascoe got swamped and lost positions to Harry Doyle and Callum Harper in short order.

Harper found the top side and rounded up Doyle to move up to sixth after starting from twelfth.

Out front Williams was battling an ailing racecar as sparks flew from the rear end every time he headed into the turns.

Berkley ranged up on the back of Williams and threw everything at the Taylor Made Chassis in the closing stages.

Williams was able to hold on and claim the narrowest of victories from Berkley in second.

Harper snatched the final podium position in a photo finish from Hughes in fourth. Hally was next across the line to round out the top five.

Doyle crossed the line in sixth ahead of Rob Hamilton in seventh, and Tania Smith rounding out the finishers in eighth.

The National Super Sedan Series will resume tonight with night one of the Ian Boettcher Classic at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway
