Brad Wicks has taken out round five of the Fun City Victorian Super Sedan Series held at Heartland Raceway Moama on Saturday night. He narrowly defeated Mick Nicola Jnr after a fantastic final where both drivers ran the full 20 laps side by side.
The first heat gave a taste of what was to come later in the night with Wicks, starting from third taking to the highline and eventually finding his way to the front. He narrowly beat home Nicola and Anthony Randall who finished in third place.
In the Second heat it was Nicola who struck back, taking the win from Wicks who finished second and Neil Witnish in third.
The third and final heat of the night saw Wicks once again take the win, from Witnish and Dave Mackenzie. Unfortunately, mechanical gremlins put Mark Sommers out for the night
The grid for the final would be Wicks and Nicola off the front row, Mackenzie and Witnish off row two and Randall and Box off row three. From the start it was clear that the front two drivers had different thoughts on what the fastest way would be around the big Heartland track. Nicola ran the bottom keeping the car nice and tight while Wicks ran up against the wall trying to work the cushion that hard formed there. The two cars ran side by side for almost the entire 20 laps with Wicks eventually getting the win by 0.19 of a second in what was one of the closest finishes to be seen in a Victorian Super Sedan Series round.
Witnish was able to hold off a fast finishing Randall for third whilst Box and Mackenzie had a terrific battle for fifth and sixth with Box getting the upper hand at the finish.
Drivers now move on to our southern double header this weekend with the South Australian Super Sedan Title at Mount Gambier on Friday, 13 April 2018, followed by Round 6 of the Fun City Super Sedan Series at Premier Speedway Warrnambool on Saturday, 14 April 2018. Both meetings have attracted great car counts with in excess of 20 drivers nominated for both nights.
