Waters Wins SA Title!
Mildura’s Jarod Waters has returned to his Title winning form this weekend, claiming the SSA Modified Sedan SA Title last night at the Murray Bridge Speedway.
Waters would start from position three on the grid behind Dylan Barrow and Brad Wicks for the thirty-five lap feature.
Barrow got the first advantage, sliding up high through turns one and two ahead of Wicks, while Waters stuck right behind them.
Coming out of turn four Waters slid underneath both, but Barrow fought back and would lead the opening lap from Waters and Wicks.
Wicks got back by Waters shortly after, the top three beginning to pull away as they tried all parts of the track and went three wide multiple times.
Barrow and Wicks settled on the high line whilst Waters persisted with the low line, but the order remained unchanged as they quickly made their way into lapped traffic.
Lap eight saw Waters dive past Wicks for second through turns one and two, then continued the momentum and got by Barrow coming out of turn four to take the lead.
Waters quickly began to pull away while Barrow and Wicks ran side by side, lapped traffic playing its part in the battle and allowing Waters to continue extending his lead.
With fifteen to go Waters was just picking his way through traffic while Wicks got by Barrow for second, while Angelo Halacas made his way into fourth ahead of Wade McCarthy.
Barrow didn’t give up and continued to stick the nose under Wicks on multiple occasions, but it wasn’t until five laps to go that Barrow was able to pull a slider on Wicks through turns one and two to take second back.
By this point Waters was a quarter of a lap ahead and there was nothing anyone else could do, Waters going on to claim a win in a non-stop feature.
Wicks made a last ditch attempt to get by Barrow but fell short, Barrow coming home second ahead of Wicks while Wade McCathy and Brett Williams rounded out the top five finishers.
