Current National Modified Sedan Champion Kye Walters has made a brilliant late race pass on good mate Brock Atkins to claim victory in the 2020/2021 SSA Modified Sedan Tasmanian State Title last night at the Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway.

It was Walters second victory in the event after winning in 2019 at the Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway at Latrobe.

With last season’s Tasmanian State Title being cancelled Kye has effectively defended the title.

The solid run of the V36 Ford Falcon of Todd Atkins came to end on lap twenty four of the main event after shadowing older brother Brock who was leading the race.

Walters began to harass the back bumper of Brock Atkins in the closing stages as the V0 Adam Holt Industries backed entry began to show signs of distress.

WALTERS AND ATKINS BATTLE FOR THE LEAD

The National Champion hit the lead on the front straight as the pair greeted the white flag.

Just 0.405 separated the two Victorians when the chequered flag fell.Trent Quillerat recorded his third career podium result in the Tasmanian State Title ahead of the Ford Cortina of Andy Russell and Hobart’s Corey Jetson rounding out the top five.
