The Perth Motorplex has brought us some of the most insane races for Street Stocks in the short time we have been there, and last night’s final ever round of the ODH Mechanical Tri-City Series gave us the ending it deserved.
Matt Iwanow and Hayden Norman set the tone for the feature, leading early, but it was B-Main winner Daniel Flavel who put the show on, as he did in the LCQ, running the wall to his advantage.
That was until disaster struck – and he came off the wall, leaving Daniel Ameduri and Cody Avins nowhere to go, and all three ended up on the infield.
Damon Lyall would enter the chat, with his slide jobs coming from nowhere to find their way to the lead duo as Ben Norman and Kayne Dellar started to make an impact.
Lyall’s race would also be cut short when his right front rim would break. While Craig Clayton and Peter Dowie would have a nightmare run, both would get into an accident on the front straight.
That would leave us to the run to the checkered flag, Norman would charge and give it one last chance and the checkered flag, with a slide job for the ages. Iwanow would get a run as both would bang door and send spray sparks to the finish line, with Iwanow taking the win and the $5,000 winners’ cheque.
Ben Norman, who had a weekend to forget until the final, would finish third, while Peter Herbert and Damon Thomson would round out the top five.
Ethan Genev would come home the ECTM hard charger, coming from the back of the field to finish eighth.
