Steve Latham has picked up his third victory from four starts, by taking out round four of the Tazz Auto Shots Tasmanian Super Sedan Series at Cranes Combined Carrick on Saturday night.
Wayne Dillon continued his consistent form across the season to date, by taking out the opening heat of the night. Tim Johnson took his brand new Sweet Chassis to a runner up finish, with Callum Harper right behind in third.
Brad McMaster took out a hard fought win for his first heat win of the season in heat two. Marcus Alexander was right on his tail in second, with Latham rounding out the podium in third.
Nathan Howells also picked up his first heat win of the season in a thrilling heat three. Latham crossed the line in second just 0.183 seconds back, with Grant Hopkins in third.
Latham as the only driver with two podium finishes in the heat races secured pole position for the main event, with Dillon set to start on his outside. McMaster would launch from position three, with Howells on the outside of row two.
Latham got a great launch from pole position and jumped away to lead the opening lap. Dillon ran second, from McMaster in third, Alexander in fourth and Howells in fifth.
A heart in the mouth moment for Johnson on lap three saw him rise up on two wheels, before coming back down, dropping from seventh to eleventh in the process.
Harper moved into the top five on lap four, working by Howells to take fifth.
The first caution flag of the race was out on lap six when Corey Jetson ran out of noise in turn two. Jetson found noise again, and was able to restart.
Jetson and Peter Johnston made contact at the back of the pack at the restart which brought Johnston to a halt. Stewards deemed Jetson as the primary cause of the stoppage, ending his race on lap six.
Harper jumped to fourth from the restart, relegating Alexander to fifth, before the caution flag was out again.
Alexander this time railed the top side to reclaim fourth position, as Latham continued to lead, from Dillon, and McMaster.
Harper reclaimed fourth position following another restart, and would soon step on to the podium as McMaster’s race came to a grinding halt on lap twelve.
Latham led away at the restart as Harper powered around the outside of Dillon into second position.
There were battles all over the race track, as Harper hounded Latham for the lead. Dillon and Alexander fought over third, as Brendan Flynn and Johnson battled over fifth.
Flynn would be the first domino to fall, as he got untidy out of turn two, allowing Johnson through to fifth.
Harper was throwing the kitchen sink at Latham, but Latham held strong and went on to record his third victory of the season by just 0.309 seconds.
Harper crossed the line in second, as Dillon held off Alexander to round out the podium in third position.
Alexander crossed the line in fourth, as Johnson recorded his first top five finish aboard his new Sweet Chassis.
Flynn was next across the line in sixth, from Howells in seventh, Andrew Poke in eighth, Paul Howard in ninth, and Kaylum Eiszele rounding out the top ten in tenth.
The Tazz Auto Shots Media Tasmanian Super Sedan Series will take a well earned break this weekend, before returning to Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway on the 7th of December.
