Press Release by Luke Nichols
Steve Jordan has been a dominant force on night one of the $10000 to win Ian Boettcher Classic at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway.
Tasmania’s Callum Harper set quick time in time trials, with Rockhampton’s Michael Larsen in second, and Jordan in third.
The grid draws were inverted for the heat races, with top qualifiers starting from eighth on the grid.
Brisbane’s Justin Randall led from start to finish in heat one from Zac Pascoe, and Tasmanian David Nichols.
New South Welshman Andrew White was too good in heat two, leading home Michael Gee and Kingaroy’s David Musch.
Jordan stormed through the field from eighth to take the win in heat three.
led home a pair of Pascoe’s with Brad Pascoe in second, and National Champion Matty Pascoe in third.
Tasmania’s Corey Smith also got the win from the rear in heat four, completing a last corner slide job on Victoria’s Mick Nicola for the win.
Nicola would finish second ahead of Hayden Brims in third. Toowoomba’s own Sean Black scored a much needed heat win in heat five after a DNF earlier in the night.
Black led home Nicola in second, and Jordan in third who again came from the rear of the field. Matty Pascoe scored his first win of the weekend in heat six.
Pascoe was too strong for White in second, and Smith in third. Zac Pascoe made it back to back heat wins for the Pascoe family in heat seven.
Pascoe led home, Rockhampton’s Brendan Doyle in second, and Ty Pascoe in third. Michael Hally took out the final heat of the night.
Leading home Gee in second, and Brad Pascoe in third. The B Main was perhaps the most stacked Super Sedan B Main ever.
With four time National Champion Darren Kane, Zac and Brad Pascoe, and Tyson Moon all transferring to the preliminary A Main.
Jordan was the top qualifier after time trials and two rounds of heats, and would opt to start the twenty five lap A Main from outside pole with Smith starting from pole position.
Jordan jumped to an early lead with Smith, Harper, Pascoe and Michael Kendall in hot pursuit.
With the battle for second raging on Jordan was able to get out to a comfortable lead, and go throughout the race pretty well untroubled.
The battle for second was frenetic with Smith, Harper and Pascoe three wide at various points throughout the race.
Both Harper and Pascoe would get along side Smith on multiple occasions, but Smith held his cool and would hold on to the position.
Jordan would come back to the pack a little bit late in the race whilst fighting lap traffic, but would still take out a comfortable win.
The battle for second would go down to the last corner with Smith holding on from Pascoe in third, and Harper in fourth.
Speedcar sensation Kendall ran a lonely race finishing fifth.
The battle for sixth was intense with Nichols crossing the line one thousandth ahead of Brad Pascoe in seventh having started from nineteenth.
Gee, Black and Randall would round out the top ten finishing eighth, ninth and tenth.
Drivers will be back on track tonight for a further round of heats, after which the top eighteen will lock into the thirty five lap main event.
The remaining drivers will tackle the B Main where the top six will transfer to lock in positions nineteen through twenty four.
