Press Release by Super Sedans WA
Dustin Higgs has taken out his first feature win of the season in Round Three of the SSWA Summer Series at the 50th Anniversary of Bunbury Speedway event.
Dusty Higgs was looking for a three-peat and got his night off to the perfect start when he took the win in heat one.
Dustin Higgs would cross the line second, ahead of Nathan Thiele in third.
Dusty would go two for two, taking out a strong win in heat two. Mount Barker’s Rob Knox would cross the line second, well clear of Kemble Aylett in third.
Dustin Higgs would dominate the field in heat three, taking out a three second win. The battle for second was hot with Ajay Hammer, Knox, and Kyle Larson all battling for position. Hammer would come out on top narrowly ahead of Knox in third.
It would be a Higgs front row lock out with Dusty starting the twenty lap feature from pole, with Dustin on his outside.
Dustin would sling around the outside into turn one to take the lead. Dusty was right on his tail, just ahead of Knox, Hammer and Thiele.
Hammer and Thiele were putting immense pressure on Knox to try and claim third. With Hammer peeking around the outside, Thiele stuck the nose up the inside and stole fourth position right as the yellows came out for a spinning Jerome Wade.
From the restart Dusty was all over the back of Dustin, mounting a challenge for the lead. Dusty would look around the outside in turn one, but would go very wide causing him to lose a bunch of ground, and back into the clutches of Knox.
Knox also was under the pump, with Thiele looking to claim his first podium of the season. Thiele would pull along side Knox heading into turn three, but Knox would slam the door shut to maintain third position.
Dusty had regained the ground on his son and was back on Dustin’s tail coming to the white flag. He again would try the top side in turn one on the last lap, but wouldn’t be able to make it stick, and Dustin would go on to record his first win of the season in his ‘Mighty Mazda’.
Dusty would settle for second, ahead of Knox in third, who would narrowly defeat Thiele crossing the line in fourth. Hammer would round out the top five, ahead of Aylett in sixth. Ryan Huxtable would cross the line seventh ahead of Wade in eighth. Kyle Larson would limp home in ninth, after blowing a tyre on the final lap.
