Official Release Saturday 30th November 2024.
2022 Western Australian Street Stock Champion Damon Lyall has taken out the Collie Ridge Resort Coalminer 53 held at the Collie Speedway this evening.
Lyall lead home two time National Champion Mick Hamon and 2024 Brian Rose Memorial Winner Jake Hoath at the end of the fifty three lap marathon event.
All thirty Street Stocks in attendance returned for night two of the event with defending champion Matt Hammond storming to victory in the pole dash to give himself pole position for the main event.
After a torrid series of heat races for the twenty drivers who didn’t lock into the A Main after night one and ten lap last chance qualifier, the twenty four finalists took the green flag for the marathon decider.
Mick Hamon jumped to the lead in the early laps from the second row with a number of stoppages plaguing the opening stanza.
The race of the defending champion Matt Hammond was over on lap ten as he limped the Kachana Beef Holden Commodore to the infield.
Both Damon Lyall and Jake Hoath took time at the front of the field as they battled with Hamon, Hayden Norman and Collie’s Cody Avins.
Kalgoorlie’s Kayne Dellar charged through the field to be battling for a position inside the top five after starting towards the back of the field.
The yellow lights were shown on lap twenty seven for the fuel stop with 2023 Western Australian Champion Jake Hoath leading them to the green flag at the resumption.
It wasn’t long after the restart before Damon Lyall wrestled second from Hamon before taking the lead with nineteen laps remaining.
Norman was into second as Hoath and Hamon lost touch with the leader as Cody Avins retired from the race on lap thirty two.
The race appeared to be going the way of Lyall as he moved away from the field with Norman clearly second before Norman’s race was over on lap forty with a broken steering arm ending the run of the 2018 Western Australian Champion.
Newman’s Donny Davis headed infield on lap forty three after running inside the top five at various stages as the long race began to take its toll.
It would be Damon Lyall’s night as he went on to claim his maiden victory in the Coalminer event from Hamon who barely held off Hoath for second with Kayne Dellar and Peter Herbert rounding out the top five.
Post race Lyall thanked his parents along with his wonderful supporters and sponsors for making his racing season possible in the 2024/2025.
The ODH Mechanical Tri-City Series continues at the Perth Motorplex on Friday 10th & Saturday 11th January 2025.
