The Super Sedans Western Australia Summer Series returns to action this Saturday night at Tyrepower Manjimup Speedway.
After an enthralling season opener at Mount Barker, twelve cars have nominated for round two. Dusty Higgs was victorious in the season opener, and if not for a passing move on the infield in the opening heat race would have swept the day. Higgs will be looking to go back to back to kick off the season.
Rob Knox was a constant threat to Higgs throughout the day at Mount Barker. Knox battled hard in heat race action with both Dusty and Dustin Higgs to qualify on the front row for the feature race. Knox took the lead early, but would ultimately succumb to Higgs, and was forced to settle for second. Knox will be hoping to take the top step of the podium this weekend.
Dustin Higgs rounded out the podium of the season opener. Higgs wasn’t able to match the pace of Higgs and Knox in the future race due to engine dramas. Higgs said
“we have had the motor out since Mount Barker and we’re racing the clock to have the car ready for Saturday. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be hoping for another podium.”
Surprise packet of the day at Mount Barker was Ajay Hammer who took out at two heat races. Hammer was impressive in the feature race, and looked set for a podium finish before a mistake saw her lose third position to Higgs. Hammer would end up being sent rear for contact with Higgs and would charge back through to finish seventh. When asked how she was feeling after winning her first two heats of the day, Hammer couldn’t hide her delight,
“it was a pretty surreal feeling! The car was on song, and I haven’t felt that comfortable in the seat for a long time.”
Having been disappointed by her final position in the feature, Hammer is looking for a consistent run this weekend, “just hoping to be consistent and smooth, keep getting the laps under my belt and see what happens from there.”
Racing will kick off at 5pm, and there is no other place that you should be this Saturday night!
