The 50th running of the SSA National Super Sedan Title begins tomorrow at the Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway in Latrobe Tasmania after what has been a massive build to the event.
Remarkably 691 days has passed since Speedway Sedans Australia has had the opportunity to conduct a National Title for one of its five National Classes, with the last one held also for Super Sedans at the Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier South Australia back in March 2020.
Thirty three SSA Super Sedans representing four different states are set to do battle at the venue that will host the event for the fifth time, with this weekend also marking the seven occasion Tasmania has hosted the SSA National Super Sedan Title.
Queensland’s Darren Kane who began his racing career on the Apple Isle has come out of retirement to defend the National Title and will pilot the Adam Beechey owned T14 Dominator.
Kane has won the equal most amount of National Titles in Super Sedans with the late Grenville Anderson who stand at the top with four wins each.
Along with Kane other former National Champions in the field include Mick Nicola Sr (Warrnambool 1998, Albany 2002 & Sydney 2003), Matt Pascoe (Perth 2013, Latrobe 2015 & Moama 2019), Steve Jordan (Latrobe 2011) & third generation Tasmanian Callum Harper who won at Rockhampton in 2016 & Sydney in 2018.
Harper has been almost unstoppable during the “Tassie Tiger Trail” this month as he recorded victories in the Grand Prix at Latrobe, Grand National at Hobart & Tuesday Night’s Race for Beech event at the Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway.
All bar one of the current state champions are represented with Matt Pascoe the current Queensland & Tasmanian Champion, Mick Nicola Jr the South Australian & Victorian Champion with Mick Nicola Sr the current New South Wales Champion.
Proceedings began with scrutineering from lunch time tomorrow ahead of three rounds of heat racing on night one.
Saturday Night will see the final round of heats before the B Main & 40 Lap A Main to decide the 2022 SSA National Super Sedan Champion.
For those that can’t get to the venue, you’ll be able to watch every lap LIVE and FREE by SSA Live powered by Pro1 Race Parts.
