He may only be eighteen, but he is the National Modified Sedan Champion currently, with Matty Smith looking forward to competing at Blue Ribbon Raceway, Horsham, in the Speedway Sedans Australia, Octane Alley, National Modified Sedan Title on Saturday 31 March 2018 and Sunday, 1 April 2018.

Smith has been racing since the age of twelve, coming through the Junior Sedan category, and residing in Toowoomba, home to many champions, it was inevitable that Smith was likely to excel.

Smith would love nothing more than to have a trouble free weekend, bit also concedes to the added pressure of being the Title holder.

My ambitions for the title is just to have a trouble free weekend and some good racing. Being the defending champion definitely adds a bit of pressure, but you just have to treat it like a normal race meeting and have some fun. We have had a great season so far, winning a few big races such as the Kings Royal and the Harbour City Hustle in Sydney, Smith said.

The Harbour City Hustle victory in a Production Sedan was highly impressive, winning every race in his brothers Nissan Skyline.
Smith has an affection with the Nissan badge, racing a Nissan 300ZX in the title.

We decided to go with the 300ZX for something different, it is great to see a variety of different cars on the track, he adds.

Smith has never raced at Horsham venue, and does not know much about the track, so he will use the practice night to learn as much as he can.

The type of track does not worry us too much, as long as there is a few race lines. I have never raced at Horsham, so we do not know a whole lot about the track. It will be good to have a practice the night before racing and see what it is like, he concludes.

History is against Smith though, with just Mark Carlin being able to go back to back in the last ten years, in a highly competitive category.

Matty Smith would like to thank the following:
