Hillview Speedway pulled out all the stops to get some of the biggest names in Western Australian Speedway racing for their only show this season, and they weren’t left disappointed as WA Production Sedan Champion Kyle Sayer reclaimed the East Pilbara Tyre Services Ash Page Memorial.
In a race that saw the old school Production Sedan against Street Stock all in style event with the positions drawn randomly, Sayer would win from Jorj Park and the 22nd starting Kye Blight.
Sayer, who won the event in 2023, saw the seas part in the opening lap, going from seventh to first in the second attempt to get the race started.
The first attempt at a start didn’t go so well, with pole sitter Brayden Sims spinning in turn one. Somehow, twenty one of the other twenty two drivers were able to avoid him, but Brandon Mongoo didn’t quite get past, leaving Sims out of the race.
A pile of cars came together as the field came to complete five laps but somehow they all continued on with the exception of defending champion Nuno Mendes who retired infield.
With six laps complete the yellows came out as a number of cars came together through turn four.
On the restart third placed Paul Briggs slowed and headed infield, seeing Sayer lead away Jorj Park and Tyde Lovell.
Blight and father-in-law Graeme McSweeney would keep moving through the field as the pair would get past Lovell until the yellows came on for Cjay Flavel who was left stranded in turn three to bring out the final yellows with 12 laps to go.
Even with the yellow lights, no one had the speed to match Sayer who would win comfortably to win his second Ash Page.
Earlier in the night it was the Western Australian Champions getting the upper hand, with Sayer winning the Production Sedans feature event and Jake Hoath the Street Stocks.
A big congratulations has to go out to Hillview Speedway for a successful running of their only show of the year.
