Victorian Jack Ramsdale has gone through the opening night of the Speedway Sedans Australia, Shannons, National Junior Sedan Title, at the 7mate Northline Speedway in Darwin.

The racing was absolutely exceptional, with four and five wide racing the norm across all eighteen qualifying heats, with only three drivers failing to complete the opening night of racing.

The night started with a brilliant race between Mitch Glynn and Jackson Derrick, with Derrick, who started from position five getting the upper hand in the concluding stages, with South Australian Brad Gartner third.

Heat two would see Katelyn Storey feel the wrath of the Officials after contact with Jack Dalton on lap one. Story would be sent to the rear of the field, while Luke Malcolm and Ryan Harris would also have a coming together on the back straight in an exciting finish. Malcolm was unable to continue, with Casey OConnell going on to win, defeating Jack Dalton and Ricky Cornwall.

Blake Iwanow was simply brilliant in heat three, coming from position ten to win by a narrow margin over Mason Cameron and Jorj Park.

Heat four provided a thrilling finish with Ardie Jonic, Heath Thorne and Jack Ramsdale entering the main straight for the chequered flag, three wide. Ramsdale swept around the outside to take a thrilling win, defeating Thorne and Jonic, with the trio separated by 0.722.

Ellie Peacock and Dylan Keen were involved in a great battle in heat five, with the pair swapping the lead numerous times before Peacock got the upper hand on the final lap to win by a car length, with Tyler Fraser third.

Nathan Thorne started from position five, but found himself in front on lap four, in another highly competitive heat. Thorne initially had a good battle with Dylan Keen and then with Keen and the fast finishing Eric Wallace who started at the back of the field.

Rory Elsum-Beaumont led the first half of heat seven, but was the deemed to be the cause of a mid race incident, which saw the West Australian sent to the rear of the field. In a three way battle for the lead, Todd Moule, Tyler Fraser and Jack Dalton provided a great race, with Moule winning by a car length.

Heat eight had five drivers fighting for second place in a brilliant spectacle. Casey OConnell, Blake Iwanow, Nathan Thorne, Heath Thorne and Michael Larsen, continually swapped positions for the minor placings with just 1.207 separating the five. Jack Ramsdale meanwhile, was 3.737 ahead of the field in a dominant performance, which saw the Victorian win his second race.

Todd Atkins proved too good in heat nine and was over the moon with excitement with the win, after mechanical dramas had plagued the former National Champion earlier in the night. Dylan Keen and Blake Webb literally crossed the line together for the minor placings, but Atkins finished 2.629 seconds ahead of the pair of them.

Ellie Peacock drove a great race in heat ten, and looked destined to win, but the Queenslander hit a bump in turn two, turning the lady racer sideways, which was all the Ardie Jonic and Luke Malcolm needed to pass Peacock, who held both drivers off for all of the race.

In another close finish, Ben Micallef would just hold off Jackson Derrick in heat eleven, with the pair going toe to toe throughout, after both started on the front row. Blake Fletcher from Western Australia, who started from position seven would finish third.

Erik Wallace took the lead early in heat twelve and was never headed, with the battle for second place where all eyes were cast. Braith Hogan, Jorj Park and Karl White had an excellent battle, with Hogan just finishing ahead of Park to fill the minor placings.

Another outstanding race developed in heat thirteen, with six drivers fighting to the lead. Ultimately it would be Nicholas Keeley who would prevail, with Todd Moule and Todd Atkins finishing within a car length separating all of them as they crossed the line.

Jack Ramsdale made it a clean sweep, when he won heat fourteen comfortably after starting from position six. Ramsdale found himself infront after the opening lap and was never headed, in one of the bigger winning margins on the night. Mitch Glynn would be a distant second, while Blake Fletcher was even further back in third.

Despite an excellent battle for the minor placings, Heath Thorne drove away from the field to win by 3.426 seconds in heat fifteen. Erik Wallace, Ricky Cornwall and Ryan Harris were all engaged in a good battle for the second place with Wallace and Harris filling the minor placings.

Jade Moule had to survive a late stoppage and a two lap restart in defeating Ardie Jonic and Jack Dalton in heat sixteen, with just 0.590 separating the three drivers. Moule was ecstatic with the win.

Luke Malcolm would enjoy a comfortable win in heat seventeen, after taking the lead on the opening lap. Michael Larsen, Tyler Fraser and Jorj Park fought out the minor placings, with less than a second separating the trio at the end of the race.

Blake Iwanow looked destined for a comfortable win in heat eighteen, but Casey OConnell stormed home, diving under Iwanow on the final turn, to turn it into a thrilling finish, with Iwanow holding on to win narrowly. Mason Cameron finished third.

Ramsdale has put himself in an excellent position going into the second night, starting from position four in his final qualifying heat. Ramsdale can afford to finish third and still start on the front row on the National final, while a second or first placing in the nineteen will guarantee the Victorian position one.

Six qualifying heats will be held on night two, before the three finals.
