Rain Wins Out Over Junior Sedan Victorian Title
The SSA Junior Sedan Victorian Title at Western Speedway was ultimately abandoned on Saturday night, with persistent rain and deteriorating track conditions forcing officials to cancel the feature race before a winner could be declared.
From the moment gates opened, it was clear the event would be a battle against the elements. Light but consistent showers throughout the evening created an ever-changing surface, prompting officials to adjust the program in an effort to give the Junior competitors every possible chance to contest their state title.
Despite the conditions, the commitment from all involved never wavered. Track staff and volunteers worked tirelessly between races, while competitors all played their part in helping to maintain the racing surface. A group of drivers even remained on hand late into the night, circulating the track in an effort to keep it raceable following repeated rain interruptions.
The Junior drivers themselves showed remarkable maturity and resilience, adapting to the challenging conditions each time they took to the track. After two rounds of heats were completed, the field was set for the A Main, and when the feature race finally got underway, it appeared a result may still be possible. However, with rain intensifying and the surface becoming increasingly unsafe officials were left with no choice but to halt proceedings. Attempts were made to reassess conditions, but the track could not be brought back to a safe standard.
With the race unable to reach the required distance to declare a result, the difficult decision was made to abandon the event, leaving the 2026 Victorian Junior Sedan Champion unclaimed.
