Matty Pascoe has claimed his first victory of the season in round eight of the McCosker Super Sedan Series at Gympie Speedway.
Matt Williams continued his good form from the second night of the Firecracker 50 in Bundaberg to claim to opening heat of the night in dominant fashion. Justin Randall was next across the line in second, ahead of JJ Hamilton in third.
Tasmanian Callum Harper took out a hard fought victory in heat two. Harper led home Gympie’s own Mark Pagel in second, Zac Pascoe in third.
Tasmanian Champion Brad Pascoe took the win in the third heat, leading home his father Matty Pascoe in second, and Pagel in third.
Rockhampton’s Harry Doyle took out a thrilling heat four from Zac Pascoe in second, and Josh McLaren in third.
Matty Pascoe decimated the field in heat five, crossing the line more than eight seconds clear of Michael Hally in second, and Zac Pascoe in third.
Hamilton put on a show in his Uncle Rob’s Dominator Chassis in the final heat of the night. Hamilton took the win from Zac Brims in second, and Brad Pascoe in third.
After three rounds of heats Matty Pascoe, Hamilton, Brad Pascoe and Zac Pascoe were all tied on 105 points.
Matty Pascoe set the fastest lap time during the heats to secure pole position, with Hamilton joining him on the front row.
Pascoe opted to start the thirty lap main event from the outside of the front row, and he used it to full effect, jumping out to lead the opening lap from Hamilton in second, Brad Pascoe in third, Zac Pascoe in fourth, and Doyle in fifth.
The top three stretched their legs, and put a gap between themselves and the chasing pack.
A mistake from Brad Pascoe allowed the top two to break away right before the opening caution flag of the race flew on lap eight.
Brad railed the top side on the restart to take the runner up position from Hamilton, as Doyle also utilised the outside to take fourth from Zac Pascoe.
Doyle made a mistake to allow Zac Pascoe to re-take fourth position at the halfway mark of the race.
Out front Matty and Brad Pascoe were able to put a gap between themselves and Hamilton in third.
Brad was right on the tail of his Dad as they raced towards lap traffic.
There was a wall of traffic in front of the Pascoe pair as the laps wound down. Brad drew level on the inside of Pagel’s corner with three laps to run, but couldn’t get the traction out of the turn to take the lead.
Lap traffic forced Matty to the inside out of the hairpin, again allowing Brad to draw level on the outside as they crossed the stripe with two laps to run.
Matty was able to edge ahead and put a lap car between himself and his son to secure his first feature race victory of the season.
Brad Pascoe crossed the line in second, ahead of Hamilton who rounded out the podium in third.
Zac Pascoe was next across the line in fourth, ahead of Williams in fifth, who claimed the Crumpton’s Hard Charger Award after starting from seventh.
Doyle crossed the line in sixth, ahead of Gympie’s own Mark Pagel in seventh, who claimed the Boomba Concrete Pumping Lucky Dog Award.
Harper was next across the line in eighth, and took home the Queensland Speedway Spares Racer Recognition Award. Hally crossed the line in ninth, ahead of Zac Brims who rounded out the top ten.
The McCosker Super Sedan Series will return on the 10th and 11th of January to Autobarn Carina Speedway in Bundaberg for a $5000 to win show.
