Brad Pascoe has swept the weekends action at Gympie Speedway, claiming round four of the McCosker Super Sedan Series, to pocket his second $5000 pay day in as many nights.
Pascoe picked up where he left off from Saturday night with a commanding heat win in the opening heat of the night. Pascoe led home Sam Hughes in second, and his brother Zac Pascoe in third.
Steve Jordan bounced back following a difficult opening night at Gympie, with a win in heat two. Jordan got the better of Justin Randall in second, and Matty Pascoe in third.
Hughes was too good in heat three, taking the chequers from Randall in second, and Brad Pascoe in third.
Matty Pascoe led the way in heat four, taking the win from former National Champion Trent Wilson in second, and Gympie’s own Mark Pagel in third.
Matty Pascoe made it two on the trot in heat five. Brad Pascoe was next across the line in second, ahead of Pagel in third.
Harry Doyle made a statement in the final heat of the night, greeting the chequers comfortably clear of JJ Hamilton in second, and Zac Pascoe in third, who put on a display for the fans in Gympie, utilising the high line to advance from deep in the pack.
It was a Pascoe front row lock out for the thirty five lap main event, with Brad starting from pole position and Matty starting on the outside.
Brad Pascoe got the best of the opening stanza and would lead lap one from Matty Pascoe in second, Hughes in third, Pagel in fourth, and Randall in fifth.
The opening caution was out on lap two after Hughes clobbered the front straight wall, ending his race from third position.
The incident elevated Pagel to third for the restart and he made the most of the opportunity, blasting around the outside of Matty Pascoe to take second on lap three.
The caution was out a lap later for a spinning Doyle, with thirty two laps to run from the restart.
Brad led at the resumption from Pagel, Randall and Matty Pascoe who were in a frenetic battle over third position.
Pascoe fought back around the outside back into third position.
Zac Pascoe after starting from eighth fought his way into the top five, and then displaced Randall to take fourth position on lap nine.
Zac wasn’t finished there, when he took third from Matty on lap eleven, and then second on lap twelve from Pagel. Zac then set out after Brad who had a mammoth 5.3 second advantage.
Matty worked by Pagel to take third with twenty two laps to run.
Brad was able to make his way comfortably through traffic, but Zac was the fastest car on the track and had brought the lead down to less than four seconds with fifteen laps remaining.
Wilson worked his into the top five after Randall exited the race, and then would take fourth position from Pagel with thirteen laps to go.
Brad Pascoe found himself behind a wall of cars as Zac continued to close the gap, but he would run out of laps as Brad claimed his second victory in as many nights.
Zac Pascoe went one better to cross the line second after finishing third on the opening night.
Matty Pascoe rounded out the all Pascoe podium in third, ahead of Wilson in fourth and Pagel in fifth.
Mitchell Gee was next across the line in sixth, from Jordan in seventh, Hally in eighth, Doyle in ninth, and Tobie Powe in tenth for his second top ten in as many nights.
We caught up with the Pascoe clan after their weekends efforts;
Brad was ecstatic to take home both feature races and spoke glowingly of his father and also the Gympie venue.
“It’s so cool to be on the podium with Dad and Zac, Dad puts so much effort into everyone’s programs and often putting his own racing to the side so others can prosper. Also a huge credit to the team here at Gympie, the effort they have put into the track in the off season made the racing this weekend awesome, and I can’t wait to come back in December.”
Zac was excited after Sunday’s feature with plenty of positives to build on.
“I struggled early in the night when the track was heavy, but as it slickened off the car got better and better, and I was able to put the car anywhere I wanted. Just need to work on starting a bit closer to the front, so I’m not chasing Brad’s tail from so far back.”
Matty was very proud of his boys, and enjoyed his weekend of racing.
“It’s pretty cool to be on the podium with the boys twice in one weekend, it’s now the fourth time we have done it, with hopefully many more to come.
I couldn’t be prouder of them both. Both Brad and Zac had my Gympie setup in their cars, but they put their own little ideas to their liking and it worked for them, so it’s great they’re feeling what they need to go faster.”
Michael Taylor claimed the Queensland Speedway Spares Racer Recognition Award. Mitchell Gee was the Crumptons Interstate Hard Charger, and Justin Randall took home the Boomba Concrete Pumping Lucky Dog award.
The McCosker Super Sedan Series will have a weekend off before returning to McCosker Gladstone Speedway on the 19th of October.
