Beau Oldfield who has finished runner up in the last two SSA Junior Sedan WA State Titles is the only driver to going through night one at the Esperance Speedway undefeated on New Years Day 2022.
Oldfield had his Redline Racecars & Rollcages Mitsubishi Mirage flying during the first night of competition in front of a healthy school holiday crowd at the South Coast venue.
Zach Munro began proceedings by collecting the Ian Beard Best Presented Car Award for the event and was presented with his plaque by the scrutineering team from Speedway Sedans Western Australia.
Racing throughout the nice was extremely close & tight with barely any incidents during the fifteen qualifying heats held on a quality racing surface.
Exactly fifty cars contested night one with Beau Oldfield going from position ten in the opening heat race of the 45th running of the event to win over the eight laps after a great battle with Zach Munro & Esperance local Chris Dickerson.
Newman’s Donny Davis made his way to the front in the early stages of heat two to collect the thirty six points ahead of Bryce Fisher & Matthew Thomson.
Shark Bay Speedway Club member Travis Strelley held off Logan Brown for the entire eight laps to claim victory with in heat three with the Odh Mechanical Charade of Hunter Downs coming from position ten to finish third.
Heat four was a total domination by Moora’s Taz Vanzetti as he won by over five seconds from Narrogin’s Brody Day & Brock Pearce.
The first local Esperance victory would come in the final heat of the opening round when Charlie Tate won heat five by over three seconds from the KCLD Cleaning Hyundai Excel of Kayne Dellar with Geraldton’s Bradley Chant holding on to third.
Beau Oldfield started his second qualifying heat in much the same fashion as the opening heat of the WA State Title going from position five to the lead on the opening lap.
Olivia Earle would unfortunately come to a stop with two laps to go bringing on the yellow lights.
Oldfield survived the stoppage to claim victory over Brody Day and the consistent Matthew Thomson.
Heat Seven saw the first major incident of the evening when Jaxon Buszan & Katie Goodwin came together on the opening lap with the pair of Hyundai Excels unable to continue.
Kayne Dellar recorded his first victory of the WA State Title defeating a depleted field of just six finishers.
The Munro boys Zach & Cade battled throughout heat eight albeit the pair are unrelated to each other, with Zach holding on to claim the maximum points.
Western Australian Champion Jhy Pack was officially second in heat eight after Cade Munro was disqualified post race by the officials.
Heat Nine was one of the races of the night as Chris Dickerson narrowly held off Taj Vanzetti & Newman’s Donny Davis over the eight lap affair.
Narrogin’s Blake Palmer collected the win in heat ten over Mount Barker brothers Brock & Jarrod Pearce.
Beau Oldfield again stormed to the lead early in heat eleven to run away with his third victory of the night to make him the overnight leader as he won by 1.5 seconds from Kayne Dellar with Western Australian champion Jhy Pack third.
Collie’s Jorja Davies survived a two lap restart to score her first heat race win in a WA State Title ahead of Jesse James Samuels & Geraldton’s Zak Turner in heat twelve.
Chris Dickerson had the local Esperance crowd cheering in heat thirteen as he moved from position nine to hit the lead and claim victory for the second time on the night defeating Zach Munro by 1.385 seconds with Cade Munro third.
The local crowd was again full of voice in heat fourteen when Charlie Tate had his second victory of the WA State Title, with the local track champion leading all eight laps to lead home Blake Palmer & Bryce Fisher.
Donny Davis endured the worst luck of the opening night where he enjoyed a five second within sight of the finish before heading infield as his right rear tyre tired to part company with his Mitsubishi Lancer in heat fifteen.
George Tate made it a trifecta of Esperance victories to end night one as he inherited the lead from Davis to narrowly take the maximum points from Jasmin Kennedy & Baxter Trouchet.
Each driver will have one more eight lap qualifying heat on night two ahead of the Two B Mains over Twenty Laps and Twenty Five Lap A Main to decide the 2021/2022 SSA Junior Sedan Western Australian Champion.
