Former State Champ Hayden Norman has put himself in prime position tomorrow night, going night one undefeated in the Bridgestone SSA Street Stock West Australian Title presented by Goldfield Pest Control and KCLD Cleaning.
Normans’ night started perfect, passing current Champ Jamie Oldfield on the last lap to win his opening heat race, while his second he won by the margin of 0.003 over Damon Lyall in an epic battle that saw the pair traded the lead four times in the last five laps.
He looked to be joined by Jake Hoath and Jack Barnewall, but both drivers struck trouble in their last heat races of the night.
Barnewall’s trouble was that of Oldfield, who was able to pass the 2019 champ at his home track.
The story wasn’t as sweet for Hoath, whose final heat only lasted the opening lap, involved in a turn two crash that has seen the team go to work on the right front corner of the car.
Two other drivers won two heat races tonight as Ethan Genev, and Shane Whild joined the fun upfront.
Genev was another driver who could have had three wins, but a broken front-end component during his second heat while leading ruined his chances.
For Whild, he finished second in his other heat, seeing him third on points overall.
Other drivers who impressed tonight were Damon Lyall and Paul Briggs, who both could not finish better or worse than second in all three heats tonight.
While Brinley McGaffin has been exceptional in his heat races tonight.
Drivers will return tomorrow for one extra heat race before the grids are set for the finals.
