AMPOL Legends of Speedway night had it all for Street Stocks, and at the end of it all, it was former State Champion Hayden Norman who stood firm in front of a bumper crowd.

Norman, along with brother Ben and Damon Lyall, put on a show as all three drivers battled for the race lead, with the trio all within a shot of taking the win.

The two brothers ran side by side for the majority of the opening laps, with Hayden, who was running the bottom trying his best to slide ahead of Ben, finally getting the job completed at the halfway mark.

A fourth driver joined them in the opening three-quarters of the race as Evan Wakefield was on the tail of the lead pack until a moment between himself and Ben Norman seeing him spin with six to go.

Wakefield didn’t give up, and in a race honoring his dad Bob’s contribution to the sport and division, railed from the back of the field, igniting the crowd with sparks flying as he bounced off the wall to finish seventh.

These four drivers were not the only ones to watch, as everywhere you looked throughout the field, there were challenges for position with again the main mid-pack body, just like the opening night racing three and four wide around the open spaces of the Motorplex.

But at the end of the day, they were no match for our leading pack, as Hayden took the win from Ben and Lyall rounding out the podium.

While Lyall could have a great weekend out point-wise, the same could not be said for the other three point leaders after the opening weekend.

Former series leader Jamie Oldfield and Ethan Genev had a weekend he would rather forget.

Both had to withdraw in the early stages of the feature after being involved in an accident that saw Genev’s front right tyre breaking off the car and Derby’s Jake Hoath falling back through the field with a car blowing smoke.

Street Stock drivers will not be able to relax with the Bridgestone SSA Street Stock Western Australian Title presented by Goldfield Pest Control and KCLD Cleaning kicking off on Thursday for practice.
