Mick Nicola Jr has become the Victorian Super Sedan Champion for the first time after taking victory at the Blue Ribbon Raceway in Horsham on Saturday Night.

Nicola Jr defeated Jamie Collins and Mick Nicola Sr in the thirty lap main event, with the Horsham facility a brand new venue for the SSA Super Sedan State Title in the Garden State.

Rain fell prior to the A Main after the six qualifying heats were conducted with the track curating team doing a fantastic job to provide a great racing surface for the finale.

Five time Victorian Champion Lucas Roberts aboard the V0 Insane started the thirty lap main event on the outside of the front row before retiring at the end of the opening circulation becoming the only driver not to complete the race.

Nicola Sr and Jamie Collins in his V34 Sweet entry battled side by side in the early stages at the front of the field before Nicola Jr went around the outside of both of them to hit the race lead on lap five.

Collins never let Nicola Jr out of his sight throughout the race as the pair began to work their way through the lap traffic as the thirty laps went green to chequer without a stoppage.

Mick Nicola Jr crossed the line just 0.835 of a second ahead of Jamie Collins with Mick Nicola Sr holding off Tasmanian Champion Callum Harper for third with Ash Bergmeier rounding out the top five.

The second generation driver is now the South Australian and Victorian Champion with his V23 Sweet the man to beat in the South of the country this season.
