Official Release Sunday 8th December 2024.
Mick Nicola Jnr is your new Victorian Champion after a barn storming performance in the 42nd running of the Victorian Super Sedan Title at the Western Speedway in Hamilton.
Nicola Jnr would secure the fourth starting position for the thirty five lap main event, starting in arrears of five time Victorian Champion Lucas Roberts from pole, Todd Atkins from the outside of the front row, and Brock Atkins from the inside of row two.
Roberts got the best of the start and jumped out to lead the opening lap. Roberts led from Todd Atkins, Nicola Jnr, Brock Atkins, and Tyson Moon.
Nicola Jnr and Brock Atkins ran in formation for the opening two laps before a bobble in turn three from the led pair allowed Nicola Jnr to fly around the outside of both Atkins brothers into second position.
Nicola Jnr continued to work the top side of the track and rounded Roberts up through turns one and two to lead at the line on lap five.
Roberts was under fire from Todd Atkins and Moon before the opening caution flag of the race was out on lap six for a stricken Brock Atkins, whose race would end with a busted rear end.
Roberts race would also end under caution, heading to the infield after six laps.
Nicola Jnr led at the resumption from Atkins, Moon, Ash Bergmeier and Jamie Collins rounding out the top five.
Mick Nicola Snr elevated himself to the sixth position after a hairy moment for Lionel West through turns three and four.
Out front Nicola Jnr was setting a frantic pace, who stretched his lead out to five car lengths over Atkins after twelve laps.
The caution flag was out with twenty laps to run after a hard hit between Dave Gartner and Dave Mackenzie in turns one and two. Gartner spun leaving Mackenzie with nowhere to go, making hard contact at full noise ending both drivers races with significant damage.
Nicola Jnr led at the resumption from Atkins, Moon, Bergmeier and Nicola Snr who blasted around the outside of Collins into fifth position.
Nicola Jnr picked up where he left off and quickly re-built his advantage over Atkins and the rest of the chasing pack.
Nicola Jnr was doing it easy out front as the laps began to wind down.
Nicola Jnr picked off the lap cars with ease as he went on to record the third Victorian Title of his career.
Hamilton’s own Atkins crossed the line in second, comfortably clear of Moon in third.
Bergmeier crossed the line fourth ahead of Nicola Snr who joined his son on the podium.
Collins finished sixth, from West in seventh, Paul Blenkiron in eighth, and Kym Leyson in ninth who rounded out the finishers.
The Victorian Super Sedan Series will return to action on the 2nd of January of Southern 500 Speedway in Portland.
