Thirty six of the countries best Super Sedan drivers are bound for Corbet’s Group Gympie Speedway for the 2023 Cush Clothing National Super Sedan Title.
Fresh off of a dominant victory in the New South Wales Title, current National Champion Matty Pascoe puts his Title on the line in a bid to become the first five time National Super Sedan Champion, after winning in 2013 at Perth, 2015 at Latrobe, 2019 at Moama, and 2022 also at Latrobe.
Also gunning for a fifth National Title will be Darren Kane. Kane won his first title back in 2004 at Murray Bridge, and his most recent victory was at Mount Gambier in 2020.
Kane is yet to win a National Title in his adopted home state of Queensland, and will be looking to break that duck this weekend at Gympie.
Tasmania’s Callum Harper also has two National Super Sedan Titles to his name after wins at Rockhampton in 2016, and Parramatta in 2018.
Harper has been in sterling form this season, and will be hoping to cap it off with a third National Title.
2011 National Champion Steve Jordan will be right in the mix come feature time on Sunday night, having taken back to back wins at Kingaroy, and then in the 10K to win North South 50 at Moama.
There are plenty of potential first time champions in the field as well, that are looking to enter the history books.
Sean Black won the Grand Prix in Tasmania in January, as well as claiming the last feature race at Gympie, and will hoping that form can propel him to a first National Title.
Jamie Collins won back to back State Titles in Tasmania and his home state of Victoria earlier in the season.
Collins has taken to his new Sweet Chassis like a duck to water, and will be looking to take the top step of the podium on Sunday night.
The always exciting Matt Williams has shown glimpses of incredible speed at different points throughout the season.
If Williams can put a full weekend together, then he could well go one step better after being the runner-up at Latrobe last season.
New South Welshman Tyson Moon and Tasmania’s David Nichols filled out the podium at the New South Wales Title and will be hoping to take the top step of the podium to claim a first National Title at Gympie.
The field is also filled with some incredibly exciting youth talent who will be looking to claim the National crown from their more seasoned competitors.
Brad Pascoe aged nineteen has taken the Super Sedan world by storm in his short career, and is more than capable of going to victory lane on Sunday night.
Hayden Brims also aged nineteen has been in ripper form this season, but is yet to claim a feature win.
We can’t rule out Hayden claiming his first feature win and first National Title this weekend in Gympie.
Sixteen year old JJ Hamilton nearly stunned the speedway world in January when he came within a whisker of winning the 10K to win Ian Boettcher Classic.
Hamilton will be entering his first National Title, and will be hopeful of a strong performance in Gympie on the weekend.
The weekend will kick off with practice on Friday afternoon.
Saturday the drivers will tackle three rounds of heats, and return on Sunday for another round of heats where the top sixteen drivers will lock straight into the A Main.
The remaining drivers will head to the B Main where the top six will transfer to the forty lap National Title decider.
