MODIFIED SEDANS ARE HEADING BACK TO THE PLEX

Press Release by WA Modified Sedans

In a major milestone for West Australian Modified Sedan racing, a stellar field of eighteen Modified Sedans will return to the Perth Motorplex this weekend for the first time since December 7th 2013.

The last time Modified Sedans raced at the state-of-the-art venue, it was current Australian Late Model and former Modified Sedan WA Champion, Kye Blight who would record the feature victory.

This weekend’s Gold Cup event will be proudly supported by Phil Blackman of Blackman Fabrications, who continues to show his support of Modified Sedan racing throughout Western Australia.

Headlining the quality field for this weekend is current West Australian Champion, Jason Batchelor who will take to the track with the number one for the first time since claiming the title back in January.

Joining Batchelor will be Sam McAuley, who won the last round of the 2021/2022 KCM Transport WA Modified Sedan Series a fortnight ago in Narrogin.

A family synonymous with Modified Sedan racing in WA is the Fraser family and this weekend we will see three Frasers return to the track with brothers Branden and Luke once again joined by father Peter, who will look to show the young guns a thing or two about Modified Sedan racing at the Perth Motorplex having raced at the venue in years gone past.

Former West Australian Champion, Jayke Malcolm has made use of Wednesday night practice events earlier this season and will hope that this track time will be of assistance when he takes on his rivals, including Allan Mortimer who is the only driver in the field who raced on December 7th 2013.

Mortimer is currently making his way back across the Nullarbor having contested the National Modified Sedan Title and Modified Sedan event at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway.

Busselton’s Kyle Sayer is one of just two drivers who have competed at the Perth Motorplex this season already, having raced with Jamie Higgs on the 14th and 15th of January in the Production Sedan division and showing that he was right at the pointy end.

Sayer has had one start in the Modified Sedan ranks this season and was very quick, so look out for his blue Holden Commodore to work his way to the front. Excited to head to one of the country’s best speedway venues are Carnarvon trio of Glenn and Kathryn Harper and Jarrod Rick.

The last time the Harpers tried to go racing they travelled all the way to Manjimup for the event to be cancelled due to the South West fires; so there is no doubt they will look forward to getting back behind the wheel on the wide open spaces of the Perth Motorplex on Saturday evening.

To round out the nominations for this weekend are Brenden Selleck, Paul Stevens, Shane Dubberlin, Brett Mills, Michael Clark and Gaje Price, all of whom cannot be discounted when Modified Sedans return to the Perth Motorplex for the Blackman Fabrication Gold Cup.
