So many headlines – where do we start a bumper field of arguably the best Super Sedan drivers in the country, three debuts – new chassis constructor, Ian Boettcher Mazda and a third generation driver.
A talent filled field of 27 cars will converge on the high banks of the Hi Tec Oils Speedway at Toowoomba for the Mountain Masters this Saturday night for Round One of the 2020/2021 McCosker Contracting Super Sedan Series.
Round One of the series is supported by Ian Boettcher Race Parts.
Headlining the field is current Australia 1 Darren Kane (Dominator Gen5). Before the halt to all events last season due to Covid19 the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Team was in great form winning both the South Australian and National Titles at Mount Gambier.
The Team has had considerable success at the Hi Tec Oils venue with Darren running second in round 2 and winning round 14 of the series events contested in 2018/19.
Local hot shoe Sean Black in the 26 Sweet Chev SS will also be one to watch after running 3rd in the coinciding event last season.
Well known race pipes manufacturer (Kempy Race Pipes) and one of our series sponsors Shane Kemp has built the first of the KO Chassis for three time Australian Champion Mick Nicola. The Team have tested the KO Chassis at Brisbane and Toowoomba and the car performed very well setting very competitive lap times. The Integrity Warranty, Kempy Race Pipes, Traralgon Car city, Virtue Homes supported Chevrolet number 3 will be looking for a strong showing in their first race meeting.
The Mazda is back! Ian Boettcher in collaboration with Ray Finch and Brenton Knight have spent considerable time building a new chassis and motor combination. The body is an RX7 Series 4 and interestingly the roof is from the last Mazda campaigned by Ian Boettcher and Wayne Randall during the 1997/98 season. They have called this chassis “Challenger” and the motor is a 13B supercharged Mazda rotary.
Wayne Randall will be driving the RX7 at Toowoomba and the Team have completed some practice laps at Brisbane and Toowoomba. The combination set lap times under the track record at Toowoomba recently so they will definitely be strong contenders this weekend.
Sixteen year old student Hayden Brims is the son of Wayne and grandson of the late Ross. He began his speedway career in quarter midgets at the age of 6 and moved into Junior Sedans at the age of 12. Hayden already has numerous feature wins to his credit in both of these classes. The Team had an opportunity for a practice at the Lismore Speedway in the family owned Rocket Chassis Monaro a couple of weeks ago and Hayden acclimatised to the powerful V8 extremely well. He is very excited to be making his senior debut at Toowoomba, however as per the racing rules he will be starting at the rear of the field for the first few shows.
Super Sedans will contest 2 rounds of heats each, the top 8 will then go against the clock in the bronze, silver and gold dashes to determine their starting positions. Qualifiers 9 thru 18 will be locked in to the 30 lap feature with drivers from 19 thru 27 having to take part in a B main to secure one of the 24 starting positions.
Also on the program at Hi Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway Mountain Masters are SSA Modified Sedans, SSA Street Stocks and It’s going to be a huge night of action that gets underway on Saturday 24 October 2020 just before 5pm.
