Press Release by WA Modified Sedans
Sam McAuley has last night added his name to the WA Modified Sedan Series Round Winners list after claiming Round Seven of the 2021/2022 KCM Transport WA Modified Sedan Series at Makit Hardware, Narrogin Speedway.
Last night’s round of the series was proudly supported by Anthony and Donna of Totally Independent Tyre Service and Mechanical in Port Kennedy and would see Lee Watt start the night in the best possible way, continuing the form he displayed at our Narrogin round earlier this season. Sam McAuley would also score his first win of the night in the second heat.
Branden Fraser returned to the series this weekend after mechanical dramas have plagued his series defence and chances of doing a three-peat and would find himself crossing the line first in the third heat of the night, before brother Luke would win heat four.
The final qualifying heats would see Gaje Price steer his Totally Independent Tyre Service and Mechanical Ford Falcon to a heat win, before Branden Fraser would make it two from three for the night.
Unfortunately, due to time restraints, the Southern Stump and Mulching Services Shootout was forced to be abandoned, so attention moved to the night’s final.
With twenty gruelling laps ahead of the drivers, Lee Watt and Branden Fraser would share the front row with Sam McAuley and Jayke Malcolm off row two. McAuley wasted no time in pouncing on Watt and Fraser as he commandingly took the lead with an inside pass moving into the opening corner. Lee Watt would slip back to position four, as Branden Fraser and Jayke Malcolm also went past.
Further back in the field, local hero Paul Stevens would begin to charge through the field, as two-time series champion, Branden Fraser started to apply immense pressure to Sam McAuley for the lead. Lee Watt also pressured Malcolm for many laps, where he would eventually make the pass for third. At this point, Brett Mills would retire from the event.
As the race approached the halfway point, it was clear that there would be a brilliant battle right to the checkered flag, as Sam McAuley led Branden Fraser, Lee Watt, Jayke Malcolm and Gaje Price who started to buy into the battle pack with Luke Fraser not far behind.
With the laps continuing the wind down, the battle for the lead became a battle of seven, as Paul Stevens fought his way to the tail end of the top seven, leaving a close finish to come as Gaje Price retired from the event.
Sam McAuley continued his strong form of late to hold off all challenges from Branden Fraser for the remainder of the race, where he would record his first WA Modified Sedan Series round win, while Jayke Malcolm found his way past Lee Watt for the final spot of the podium. Lee Watt would finish a gallant fourth position ahead of Luke Fraser, Jamie Higgs, Shaun Brewer and Shane Dubberlin.
The West Australian Modified Sedan Drivers Association would like to thank our round sponsor, Totally Independent Tyre Service and Mechanical for again supporting the WA Modified Sedan Series, as well as the Narrogin Speedway Club for hosting not one, but two rounds of the 2021/2022 KCM Transport WA Modified Sedan Series.
Attention for Modified Sedan competitors will now turn to Saturday April 2nd, where Modified Sedans will be on the program at the Perth Motorplex for a non-series event. Please keep an eye on the WA Modified Sedans Facebook page or head to motorplex.com.au for tickets and more information about this event.
The final round of the 2021/2022 KCM Transport WA Modified Sedan Series will then return to Moora Speedway on Saturday April 30th for the final opportunity for drivers to secure all important series points with thanks to round sponsors Blackman Fabrication and KCM Transport.
