Lindsay McAuley has claimed the first win of the 2023/2023 Stevens Ceilings WA Modified Sedan Series at Geraldton City Speedway by defeating Jamie Higgs and Paul Stevens in the event that was proudly supported by Greenfield Transport Services.
Shane Brittain would take full advantage of a front row start in the first heat race to open a sizable margin, before taking the win ahead of Jamie Higgs and Lindsay McAuley on a racetrack that was already proving difficult to pass on.
Jamie Higgs would show that a front row start could be the deciding factor between a heat race win or not, as he used his pole position start in heat two to take the lead, while Paul Stevens, Shane Brittain and Lindsay McAuley jostled for the minor places. Jamie Higgs would end up taking the win over Paul Stevens and Shane Brittain.
The third and final qualifying heat would see Ashley Baker, driving the Peter Katona Ford Falcon quickly retire from the event leaving Brenden Higgs in the race lead with Lindsay McAuley looking for anyway through for the lead. Steve Beres and Paul Stevens would battle for third and fourth, but as the checkered flag flew it was Brenden Higgs who would record the victory ahead of Lindsay McAuley and Paul Stevens.
The time now came for the very first Field Mining Services Group Shootout of the seaon, where Jamie Higgs would prove too strong for Shane Brittain, earning Higgs a nice early season cash bonus and pole position for the feature race to come.
With a few drivers suffering mechanical dramas, a field of six would face the green flag for the final, where Shane Brittain wasted no time getting to the race lead, before he would find himself facing the concrete wall after a half spin. A yellow light would signal the very first Delaware restart of the 2023/2024 season, that would be short lived as Kevin Ellement found himself making heavy contact with the concrete wall, ending his night.
Lindsay McAuley would lead the field away once more, as Paul Stevens and Jamie Higgs raced side by side for multiple laps in the battle for second and third with Shane Brittain watching on closely behind.
From this point, the positions would not change, which would see Lindsay McAuley record the first round win of the season defeating Jamie Higgs and Paul Stevens, with Shane Brittain and Steve Beres rounding out the finishers.
The WA Modified Drivers Association would like to thank Brenden from Greenfield Transport Services for his support of this round of the 2023/2024 Stevens Ceilings WA Modified Sedan Series, as well as Geraldton City Speedway for hosting us once more.
Attention will now turn to Round 3 of the series, which will return to the Narrogin Speedway on Saturday, November 18th with thanks to our naming rights sponsors, Stevens Ceilings for supporting their home track round.
