2017 National SSA Modified Sedan Champion Matty Smith has guided his Chrysler Centura home to victory in the TM Contracting North Queensland Title last night at the Mareeba Speedway.
Smith held off a fast finishing Darran Lester from Brisbane with former Queensland Champion Brodie Boss rounding out the top three.Sixteen cars faced the starter for the twenty lap main event with Boss and Smith sharing the front row.
Smith got the initial jump from Boss and Myles Gilroy as the very popular Ford Cortina of Townsville’s Adam Jorgensen brought about the first stoppage when he came to a stop on the back straight with a broken trailing arm on lap seven.
As the race moved into its second portion it was Lester who was the man on the charge first passing Gilroy for third then working his way around Brodie Boss into second place.
Lester threw everything at Matty Smith in the final circulations but was unable to find a way past the Cush Clothing Centura.
Boss held on to third from Myles & Wayne Gilroy rounding out the top five ahead of the recovering Mick Shelford who did a gearbox change earlier in the night.
SSA Modified Sedans are once again set for a big season in the sunshine state as the class continues to put on a first class show wherever they hit the racetrack.
