As we enter the final days leading into the 2019/2020 Moyle Engines & Race Parts SSA National Junior Sedan Title and hope that our Eastern States Competitors can make it to Collie to contest the event, a number of Western Australian based competitors are embarking on a big journey of their own.
The M17 Race Team from Broome in the Far North of Western Australia have recently arrived in the South of the State for the big event.
Their driver Cody Mackellar has been racing for five years, originally starting in a Datsun Sunny before moving into a Hyundai Excel in 2017.
This weekend’s event will be Cody’s first time contest a SSA National Junior Sedan Title with his career highlight so far was qualifying for the A Main at the 2018/2019 SSWA Junior Sedan Title held in Albany.
Below is a snapshot of their trip from Broome which is located 2300kms to the North of the state capital Perth.
“Our trip started at 11pm on the 26th December 2019, 6 people, 2 cars, 1 speedway trailer and 1 small lap dog named Archee hitting the road late in the evening as the weather up north being in the 40s, we choose to leave at night as it normally is a lot cooler to travel.
Our first quick stop was at 2.44am at the Sandfire Roadhouse where the temperature was 38 degrees.
Next stop was Port Hedland around 6am and the temperature was a nice 45 degrees, so glad we left when we did with our final stop for the day being Carnarvon arriving at 4pm, with having an early dinner we were in bed by 7pm.
Up and on the road by 7am Friday morning for the 2nd leg of our trip destination being Bunbury on our travels my Dad got pulled over by the Highway Patrol police doing random breath testing after the police officer got dad to blow in the machine I asked if I could have a photo with him next to my car.
I told him that we were asked give a little write up about our travels to the titles, we arrived in Bunbury at 7pm.
On the 5th January I will be heading to Perth to compete in the 2020 Under 16s Country Week Cricket, then travel back to Bunbury on Thursday 9th January to get ready for the SSA National Junior Sedan Title and then on the 17th January we will head to Narrogin for the SSWA Junior Sedan State Title.
