Steve Latham has taken out round two of the Tazz Auto Shots Tasmanian Super Sedan Series at Autoklene Hobart Raceway, for his second victory in as many weeks.

In the opening heat of the night rookie of the year contender Corey Jetson claimed the first win of his debut season. Jetson led home Brad McMaster in second, and Wayne Dillon in third for southern podium sweep.

Latham picked up where he left off at Carrick the week before with a hard fought win in heat two. Latham got the best of Callum Harper in second, and South Australian Kym Jury in third.

Grant Hopkins picked up his first heat win of the season in the third and final heat of the night. Latham continued his strong form when he crossed the line in second, ahead of Dillon in third.

Latham secured pole position for the twenty five lap main event, with Jetson set to start on his outside. Hopkins would launch from the inside of row two, with Dillon on his outside.

Latham got a great launch, and jumped into the lead. Latham led lap one from Jetson in second, Hopkins in third, McMaster in fourth, and Dillon in fifth.

Harper after starting from sixth took fifth position into turn one on lap two.

McMaster was next on Harper’s hit list and he would take fourth position on lap four right before the first caution flag of the race flew.

Latham led away at the resumption from Hopkins, who used the top side of the track to his advantage on the deleware restart to move into second position. Jetson ran third, from Harper in fourth and McMaster in fifth.

Hopkins was under immense pressure from both Jetson and Harper, but was given a reprieve when the yellow flag flew for a spinning Andrew Poke in turns three and four.

This time it was Jetson’s turn to utilise the deleware restart and re-take second position.

The yellow flag flew again, and from the restart Hopkins spun in front of the field leading to a pile up in turn two. Hopkins would face the wrath of the stewards and be sent to the rear for the restart.

This would elevate Harper to third for the restart, and he would blast around the outside of Jetson to take second on the restart.

A big incident in turn one saw Dwaine Sonners go for a big roll, ending his night with significant damage.

Latham led at the resumption with Harper, Jetson, Dillon and Hopkins in hot pursuit.

Latham and Harper cleared away from the chasing pack and duked it out as the laps began to wind down.

Harper was throwing everything at Latham in a bid to take the lead, trying high, trying low, but to no avail as the final caution flag flew seven laps from home.

Latham led away at the restart, as the caution brought Jetson back into the battle.

Jetson had a great line on the top of the track and drew level with Harper at the stripe with four laps to run.

Harper was able to negate the challenge and hold on to second position.

Latham cleared away and greeted the chequered flag for his second victory of the season. Harper was next across the line in second, ahead of Jetson in third for the first Super Sedan podium finish of his career.

Dillon crossed the line in fourth, ahead of Hopkins in fifth. Nathan Howells was next across the line in sixth, from Kaylum Eiszele in seventh who completed his first feature race, ahead of Poke in eighth who rounded out the finishers.

Round three of the Tazz Auto Shots Media Tasmanian Super Sedan Series will be on deck this Saturday night at Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway.
