Press Release by Super Sedans WA
Mount Barker’s own Rob Knox has won the finale of the SSWA Summer Series at Mount Barker Speedway, whilst Dustin Higgs secured the Summer Series crown.
Nathan Thiele claimed the opening heat race of the day, after an enthralling battle with Bryce Fisher who finished second. Ryan Huxtable would round out the podium in third.
Knox would kick off his day with a win in heat two. Knox led home Dusty Higgs in second, and the returning Lee Aylett in third.
Dustin Higgs dominated the field in heat three, leading home Fisher in second, and Steve Larson in third.
Knox would take out an eventful heat four from Thiele in second, and Huxtable in third.
Aylett led from the outset of heat five and took a narrow win ahead of Knox in second, and Dusty Higgs in third.
Dustin Higgs would claim a big win in the final heat of the day, from Jerome Wade in second, and Thiele in third.
Knox was the top qualifier after three rounds of heats, putting him on pole position for the feature race. Dustin Higgs would join Knox on the front row.
Knox got the jump from the inside and lead into turn one. Higgs would fight back on the outside of the track, but would lose ground and a position to Thiele in the process.
Fisher and Huxtable started well to settle into the bottom half of the top five.
Aylett and Dusty Higgs moved by Huxtable in consecutive laps to move to fifth and sixth respectively.
Up front Knox had moved out to a strong lead, whilst Dustin Higgs and Fisher mounted the pressure on Thiele.
The caution light was out on lap twelve for Fisher whose race would end in disappointment.
Knox would streak away from the chasing pack in the final eight lap stretch to become just the third feature race winner of the season.
Thiele was able to thwart all the challengers behind him to cross the line second, just ahead of Dustin Higgs in third.
Aylett came out on top in his own battle with Dusty Higgs to round out the top five in fourth and fifth respectively.
Dustin Higgs would be crowned Summer Series Champion, and will head into the Western Australian Super Sedan Title at Bunbury in three weeks as one of the hot favourites.
