Despite not winning one of the two preliminary features on night one of racing, Mitchel Killeen is the overall points leader of the CTM Recruitment Production Sedan Classic at the Ellenbrook Speedway.
Technically he is tied on points with prelim feature one winner Kye Blight, the duo only split by fastest lap time, while defending champion Nuno Mendes sits third overall and prelim feature two winner Josh Fraser holds down fourth place.
After two rounds of heat racing the field was split into odds and evens based on points for the two prelim features and Blight didn’t need to be asked twice, racing away to the lead immediately in the odds race.
Killeen would stick right with him for the fifteen lap distance but was unable to get by, while Jake Blight would lead home a pack of cars in third followed by Broome’s Jorj Park and Esperance’s Jacky Moroney.
The second prelim was about redemption for Fraser, an earlier heat race drama costing him valuable points and firing him up.
Mendes would lead the opening laps, and Fraser would race into third, survived a battle with second placed Jayden McCuish and then got by Mendes for the win.
Mendes held on for second while Dylan Parkes put in a solid performance for third, Rick Iwanow and Luke Roberts rounding out the top five.
Racing begins again today at 2pm, with drivers each getting two more heats prior to the thirty lap feature event.
