The Apple Isle has been the place of envy with huge car counts all season and this weekends feature at the Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway is no exception, with a massive fifty four cars ready to battle it out for the Killa Earthworx Stockie Showdown.
Whilst the 20/20 has been an annual Street Stock event in Tasmania, this year has seen a few changes to the format and a number of sponsors donate towards what may be the biggest race on the apple isle. There was no naming rights sponsor for the 20/20 in the past and this is where the team at Killa Earthworx have stepped in and taken over.
The format will be similar to the Super Sedan Grand Prix which attracts many interstate names to the state and the Street Stock fraternity are hoping this event in the future will do the same with attracting the interstate contingent.
The format will consist of 2 qualifying heats with the top 20 to the A main. 24 car B main with the top 4 transferring to the A and a first after many years a pole shuffle for the top 10. The A main is to be contested with 20 laps in each direction.
Prize money for the event currently sits at approx. $6,000 with numerous major and minor sponsors throwing in to make this event and give the street stock class have what they deserve for the huge numbers week after week.
Every lap has $100 on it for the leader of that lap, there is a $300 hard charger, money for 5th in the B main, quick time in the final, first DNF in the final and the pole shuffle winner just to name a few. I personally would not like to be the person doing payouts because just wow!
SSA Street Stocks have put on some of the most intense, fast and hard racing and by the time you count 54 drivers, their crew and their families on the hill and in the stands, it is no wonder this class is the most popular and continues to entice new blood.
