Round Two of the Tazz Auto Shots Tasmanian Super Sedan Series got underway at Carrick Speedway over the weekend, with youngster Corey Jetson getting the chocolates when all was said and done.
As the field lined up for the twenty-five lap feature, pole sitter Callum Harper was emitting plenty of smoke but it wasn’t enough to stop him from taking the green, getting the jump from fellow front row starter Wayne Dillon.
David Nichols dove underneath Dillon and grabbed second, quickly setting out after Harper, while the first yellow light of the race would come out with two laps completed as Steve Latham came to a stop on the back straight.
The restart didn’t last a full lap as Paul Howard found himself facing the wrong way in turn four, then in the same spot the very next attempt a pile of cars came together to bring out the yellows once again.
Unfortunately Dillon would also be forced infield, seeing Harper now leading away Nichols and Adam Beechey for the restart.
Harper was quickly away as Nichols and Beechey rubbed panels, Beechey dropping back and falling into the clutches of Corey Jetson who wrestled away third.
Nicholas meanwhile was applying the pressure to Harper, poking the nose underneath on multiple occasions but unable to make the move while Jetson was now under the pump from fourth placed Brad McMaster.
As Harper continued to hug the pole line Nichols was all over the back of Harper but there was simply nowhere for him to move through, the experience of the duo helping them put on a great show. Behind them though, Jetson took the opportunity to close the gap and as Nichols looked for a way through on Harper he lost some ground and allowed Jetson to pull up alongside him on the outside.
The top four were now fighting it out in close quarter with twelve laps to go when Nichols spun coming into turn one, McMasters also spinning to avoid the stricken #3 car and bringing out the yellow lights.
Again, Harper would lead away, this time with Jetson and McMasters filling the second row behind him, Nichols rejoining from the rear.
McMasters used the outside line to get by Jetson for second as the race resumed and continued his momentum to show his nose to Harper, but couldn’t quite get all the way round, forced to settle for second.
As Harper’s machine continued to omit the occasion puff of smoke, he continued to run on the bottom as McMaster flirted with the highline and wasn’t letting Harper get away, while Jetson was forced to sit back and watch the top two.
With five laps to go the yellows came on as Nathan Howells found himself spearing towards the turn three wall, bunching the field up once again and though Harper led them away, it didn’t last long as Jetson and McMaster went either side of him to fight for the lead coming down the main straight, Harper ultimately retiring infield.
Jetson and McMaster would now fight it out in front, with Jetson able to get out in front running high and McMaster doing all he could to dive underneath but to no avail.
With one to go Jetson had the lead over McMaster and was never challenged from here, going on to claim the win ahead of McMaster while Nicholas made a last lap pass to claim the final position on the podium.
On the same program Craig Williams claimed victory in the SSA Modified Sedans feature, Braiden Russell won in the SSA Production Sedans and Jack Pearce and Caleb Alexander won the Top Star and News Star SSA Junior Sedans respectively.
