The Speedway Sedans. Mental Racewear, National Street Stock Title is now less than three weeks away, with a massive entry list of 135 set to do battle at the Timmis Speedway, Mildura, with a record number of fifteen Tasmanians making the trip, the largest ever contingent for a National Title in any category in the history of Australian Speedway.
One of those fifteen, Corey Jetson, will be one of the youngest Tasmanians and one of the youngest in the entire field.
The twenty two year old, in just his third season of racing, from Brighton, 26km North of Hobart, will campaign a brand new VY Holden Commodore in his first ever title.
The car will be brand new after Jetson rolled the car while leading earlier this year. It has been a roller coaster year. We had back to back podiums after Christmas and qualified on the front row of the Tasmanian title, then a week later I rolled whilst leading a heat race and made a mess of the car, Jetson explains.
Having never raced in a title before, it will also be his first ever time racing outside of Tasmania.
I really love racing side by side with some great mates that I have made over the journey. I prefer racing the traditional way, but my family believe I race better the wrong way, he adds.
I am really looking forward to the chance to meet and race against new people and try myself out on a new track, Jetson said. I am honestly not going with any expectations. I am debuting a brand new car and I will be happy if I can turn some laps with everyone else.
Jetson believes that Anthony Beare and Rhys Heinrich will be the ones to beat in the title.
