The 50th Anniversary ENZED SSA Modified Sedan National Title at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway kicks off later this week and with over eighty cars converging on the venue, it is sure to be a hard fought battle.
A stacked field headlines the golden anniversary event, with six current and former National Champions set to contest the crown.
Leading the charge is defending Champion Nathan Macdonald, who claimed victory at Mildura last season and now returns to defend his title on home soil.
He’ll face stiff opposition from an elite group of past winners, including two-time Champion Jarod Waters, 2018/19 winner Kye Walters, 2012/13 victor Aidan Raymont, 2010/11 Champion Max Clarke, and 1997/98 winner Greg Worling.
The depth doesn’t stop there. The podium from last year returns, with runner-up Dylan Barrow and third place finisher Wade McCarthy both looking to go better in 2026, not to mention drivers the ilk of Brodie Boss, Brody Chrystie, Joel Berkley, Mark Raymont, Tim Atkin and David Jacobi who have all finished on the National Title previously.
Incredibly, ten of the last twelve podium finishers and twenty-one placegetters from the past eleven titles will take to the track, highlighting just how competitive and experienced this year’s lineup is.
This marks the sixth time Toowoomba has hosted the National Title, and the first since the 2012/13 season when Aidan Raymont triumphed over Nathan Macdonald and Gavin Lorensen. There’s also a touch of history repeating itself, with Glenn Truin, Brett Barron, David Jacobi, and Greg Worling all having competed in the 2002 Toowoomba title.
Form coming into the weekend is strong across the board. Brad Wicks enters as the reigning New South Wales and Victorian Champion, while Jarod Waters holds the South Australian crown and Max Clarke remains Queensland Champion. Wade McCarthy has notched three feature wins this season, while drivers including Wicks, Wilson, Lester, Barrow, Waters, Berkley, Harm, and both Macdonalds have two victories apiece.
In total, eighteen drivers in the field have combined for twenty-nine feature race wins this season alone, a statistic that underlines just how open this year’s title fight could be.
Action begins on Good Friday, with scrutineering from 8:00am followed by practice sessions from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, before the traditional Calcutta. Saturday will see three heats per driver, while Sunday features the final round of heats before the all-important finals decide the 50th National Champion.
For those unable to make it trackside, all the action will be live on Clay-Per-View.
