Dustin Higgs has claimed his third Marri Park Tavern WA Super Sedan Series in a row after taking the win in round three at Bunbury Speedway
Higgs got his night off to the perfect start, jumping to the lead from the outside of the front row to take the win in heat one. Higgs led the way from his father Dusty in second, and Kemble Aylett in third.
Higgs would go two for two, claiming the win in heat two after starting from fifth. Dusty followed his son across the line in second after starting from the back of the pack, and Ryan Huxtable held off the chasing pack to round out the podium in third.
Dusty got his win in the final heat of night leading from the outset in a great battle with Adrian Geary. Dustin rallied late to take second, from Geary in third.
The Higgs boys locked out the front row for twenty lap feature race, with Geary and Huxtable starting from row two.
Dustin jumped to the lead from the start. Dusty and Geary ran side by side in the early exchanges before Dusty gained the ascendancy out of turn four to be second at the line at the end of the opening lap.
Geary ran in third from the chasing pack of Huxtable, Aylett, Matt McMahon and Luke Matlejan.
Up front Dustin set a frenetic pace leading by a straight away, and into lap traffic after just five laps.
Aylett worked by Huxtable to take fourth and began to chase down Geary for third.
McMahon moved past Huxtable to take fifth, with Huxtable battling a tight race car hampering his progress.
Dustin had lapped up to fifth, and was just about to put a lap on Aylett in fourth when the caution light was out at half race distance for a stricken Lukas Lampert.
Dusty found a second gear after the restart to keep pace with Dustin and apply the pressure to his son.
Dustin held his nerve and rebuilt his lead as the laps began to wind down.
A spinning Andrew Kennedy brought out the final caution, and left Dusty with no where to go collecting the stricken Kennedy.
Dusty suffered a flat tyre forcing a retirement from second position.
Dustin stormed away in the closing stages to claim his third win on the bounce with the series and his fourth overall for the season.
Geary marked his return with a runner up finish, with Aylett rounding out the all Sweet Chassis podium in third.
McMahon crossed the line in fourth, from Huxtable in fifth. Matlejan secured the best finish of his short Super Sedan career crossing the line sixth, with Kennedy rounding out the finishers in seventh.
Higgs confidence continues to build and he was clearly buoyed by his cars performance after his win;
“The car is just a rocket ship. The car is doing all the work for me. The crate engine has a perfect balance of horsepower and torque. Just been working on a few things set up wise, and it’s getting faster and faster each time we head out the gate.”
The Marri Park Tavern WA Super Sedan Series will be back on deck in a fortnight’s time from the sight of the 2024 National Super Sedan Title Albany Speedway.
