Western Australian Super Sedan champion Gary “Dusty” Higgs has led home son Dustin at the opening round of the 2021/2022 WA Super Sedan Summer Series held earlier today at the Tyrepower Manjimup Speedway.
In the unique daytime conditions, the twenty lap decider went green to chequer without a stoppage as the high horsepower SSA Super Sedans flew around the South West venue.
The Higgs father & son combination shared the front row for the main event, with third generation star Lee Aylett shadowing the pair throughout the race.
Aylett made a daring late race outside pass on Dustin Higgs as the leaders rolled the dice as they worked their way through the lap traffic.
Just the top five cars finished on the lead lap as Gary Higgs collected the win from his son Dustin by just over two seconds with Lee Aylett a further 0.38 seconds behind in third.
High drama occurred after the chequered flag was shown as Luke O’Hanlon’s car burst into flames with the fire being brought under control quickly by the officials with O’Hanlon unharmed.
The 2021/2022 WA Super Summer Series continues at the Makit Hardware Narrogin Speedway on Saturday 13th November 2021.
