Callum Harper won the SSA Super Sedan feature race on Saturday night at the @Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway after starting from eighth on the grid and in the process locked away the win in the Tazz Auto Shots Media Tasmanian Super Sedan Series.
Darren Kane, guest driving the Beechey #14, would start from pole position in the twenty-five lap final alongside Jakobe Jetson, and moved cleanly into the lead as the race went green, followed by Jetson and Marcus Alexander.
Behind them Harper was working his way through the field, into fifth by lap three, but as he began looking past Wayne Dillon for fourth the yellow lights came out.
The restart gave Harper the chance he needed, getting outside Dillon and then diving underneath Alexander to take third, only for the move to be negated as a number of cars came undone further back in the field.
Kane would again lead away the restart and Harper would do the same around and under move to take third once again. He then went low on Jetson for second but was unable to make the move stick.
Lap after lap Harper would draw alongside Jetson on the low side, but Jetson would hold the momentum crossing the line, the two battling right on the tail of Kane.
A yellow light for a spun car would bring the race to a halt once again, and the restart gave Harper the chance to move around Jetson and take second.
Harper was now right on the tail of Kane and would remain there after another restart with fourteen laps remaining. Harper got under Kane with twelve to go, the two making contact but continuing on, Kane still in the lead.
That would only last one more lap though, Harper shooting by Kane to take the lead and from here he built up enough of a gap that Kane couldn’t make any moves.
Lapped traffic gave Kane a glimmer of hope, but Harper made all the right moves and maintained his gap, going on the claim the win by just over half a second from Kane, with Jetson rounding out the podium.
