Second Generation Super Sedan pilot Mitchell Gee put together one of the finest weekend’s of his racing career to claim victory in the Ian Boettcher Classic last night at the Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway in Queensland.
Gee led all thirty six laps to claim the $10,000 winners cheque ahead of Brisbane’s JJ Hamilton and Rockhampton’s Matt Williams in what was a great two nights of Super Sedan action on the high banks.
Gee and Darren Kane aboard the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Q36 shared the front row for the big dance as Gee railed the top of the racetrack to lead early.
Victorian Ash Bergmeier worked his way into the runner up spot early on in the main event as reigning champion Darren Kane fell back through the pack to the back of the top five.
The McCosker Contracting RK3 of Williams was into second by lap twelve as the Super Sedans thundered around the Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway.
With thirteen laps remaining Williams began to close the gap on the race leader as they worked their way through traffic before Bob McCosker brought the red lights on when he inverted the GL39 on the front straight after receiving heavy contact from another car.
When the race got back underway JJ Hamilton found a way past Williams and they began his pursuit of the race leader.
Hamilton stalked the back bumper of Mitchell Gee as Williams stayed within striking distance as the white flag was shown.
It would be Mitchell Gee’s night as held off Hamilton by 0.354 of a second to lead every lap with Matt Williams a gallant third.
Queensland Champion Brad Pascoe drove a smart race to finish fourth with Northern New South Wales product Zac Brims rounding out the top five.
American Devin Moran driving the Ian Boettcher Race Parts USA35 came from winning the B Main to finish seventh by race end.
