Press Release by WA Modified Sedans
Branden Fraser has tonight won his third round of the 2020/2021 Blackman Fabrication WA Modified Sedan Series, defeating Jayke Malcolm and Luke Fraser at Moora Speedway.
The event, which was proudly supported by Blackman Fabrication and Cranecorp Australia attracted a smaller field of eight cars, but again saw some fantastic racing action.
The opening heat of the night would see newly crowned West Australian champion Jayke Malcolm make the best of a front row start and lead from the outset and duration of the ten lap heat race. Branden Fraser would find the track tough going, losing a number of positions, as Sam McAuley and Adam Houston charged through the field. Houston would soon find himself in a good battle with Luke Fraser and Paul Stevens, as Branden Fraser began to work his way back through the field, passing Allan Mortimer. As the chequered flag flew, it was Jayke Malcolm would hold on, defeating Sam McAuley and Adam Houston.
Heat two was yet another entertaining affair, as Luke Fraser led the field into the first turn, but soon found himself pushing towards the concrete wall. Narrogin’s Paul Stevens pounced and took the lead, as Sam McAuley followed him through for second. Fraser soon found his way back past McAuley and charged after Stevens in front. Bunbury duo of Allan Mortimer and Adam Houston spent the entirety of the race battle it out, before one slip up saw Branden Fraser pass for fourth. Paul Stevens would take the win ahead of Luke Fraser and Sam McAuley.
The third and final heat of the night would see Allan Mortimer charge to the lead, before he again ran wide, leaving Branden Fraser with the lead. He continued to lead the field, while Jayke Malcolm, Paul Stevens and Luke Fraser duelled further behind. Adam Houston who was challenging Mortimer for second soon retired, leaving Jayke Malcolm and Sam McAuley in third and fourth. Paul Stevens would also retire soon after, leaving Branden Fraser to win ahead of Allan Mortimer and Jayke Malcolm.
The Southern Stump and Mulching Services Shootout would see a very dramatic event, as Luke Fraser defeated Allan Mortimer, before Paul Stevens would join Fraser. Stevens soon found himself minus a right rear wheel, bringing his shootout to a premature end. Jayke Malcolm would soon defeat Luke Fraser, before finding himself touching the concrete wall ending his run, as Branden Fraser progress. For the final instalment of the SSMS Shootout, Branden Fraser would prove too strong, defeating Sam McAuley and earning himself yet another pole position start for the twenty lap feature race.
With Branden Fraser and Sam McAuley on the front row, the twenty lap feature race began and saw a thrilling start as Branden Fraser led the field through the opening lap, before the yellow lights would soon come on, with Sam McAuley spinning in turn four with a flat tyre after contact during the opening laps.
When the race restarted, Branden Fraser continued to lead, as his brother Luke started to apply the pressure to Jayke Malcolm who sat in second. Further back, Paul Stevens would retire from the event, joining McAuley on the infield.
From this point, Branden Fraser would not be headed, as Jayke Malcolm opened up a margin between himself and Luke Fraser in third. Branden Fraser would go on to record his third round win of the season, defeating Jayke Malcolm, Luke Fraser, Allan Mortimer and Merv Penn.
The West Australian Modified Drivers Association would like to thank both Blackman Fabrication and Cranecorp Australia for their support of the WA Modified Sedan Series and tonight’s round, as well as all of our other series sponsors who have supported us throughout the season.
The WA Modified Drivers Association committee will now collate all the series points, in preparation for our annual trophy presentation evening, which will be promoted via our facebook page when a date and venue is confirmed.
