There was action aplenty at Pithara Speedway yesterday as the SSA Production Sedans fought it out for the Kevan Joyce Memorial, doubling as the second round of the Natrad Four Crowns Series.
Six different winners from six heats meant the feature was sure to be a cracker and it didn’t disappoint, with front row combatants Josh Fraser and Jayden McCuish going side by side right throughout the entire first lap.
Dale Cockman was also running in close proximity, moving around the outside of McCuish to grab second in the opening laps.
Fraser began to pull away with Cockman, McCuish and State Champion Kyle Sayer all chasing hard.
McCuish and Cockman once again went side by side on lap four, the duo not giving an inch as they fought for position, Cockman prevailing temporarily before McCuish fought back and grabbed second once again on the sixth circulation.
Sayer quickly tried to take advantage and also slip under Cockman, but Cockman powered away and set out after McCuish once again.
Up front, Fraser had a gap of over 3.5 seconds and he didn’t look like slowing anytime soon and even lapped traffic, which he began to encounter at the halfway point of the twenty lap feature race, didn’t slow his progress.
As the laps wound down a number of fancied competitors headed infield: Barry Rose with an overheating car, Jake Avins with a flat tyre and Mitchell Killeen with mechanical dramas, but back on track it was all Fraser, cruising to victory by nearly three and a half seconds in the non stop feature race, defeating McCuish and Cockman, Sayer, Mitchell Baker, Wayne Leviston, Michael Moltoni and Craig Lenane rounded out the finishers.
Fraser has now won the opening two rounds of the Natrad Four Crowns Series and will look forward to making it three from three at Kellerberrin in the PTQCC Production Sedan Open Championships, to be held on the 13th of August.
